    CLC Route Upgrade Study

From what I've read battery trains are good for about 30 miles between recharging. High charge short overhead rails in certain stations en-route might work.

    CLC Route Upgrade Study

No problem. Thought others might be interested in it. So sad that it didn't even get off the ground as a project before being grounded. Hopefully it'll get resurrected sometime, here's hoping BTW I've added a link to the full PowerPoint presentation used in the video in my thread starter

    CLC Route Upgrade Study

Interesting PWI presentation on the CLC Line of Route Upgrade (posted on You Tube on 28 November 2025 on the Permanent Way Institute (PWI) channel), which was recently concluded by a joint group involving Matt McDonald and WSP, which looked at all the options for upgrading the route between...

GBRf Class 99 - 30 locomotives now ordered

Out of curiosity, does anyone know whether any consideration was given to adding 3rd rail capability at any time, or would the system be unlikely to cope with the additional energy requirements?

    Class 93 vs Class 99

The Class 93 are essentially a derivative of the Class 88 but with a larger diesel engine and some batteries. This format allows them to be used in a very similar fashion to the 88s, allowing them to shunt wagons or coaches into non-electrified sidings etc. which are just off the mainline or...

Fatal train crossing crash in Texas (20/12)

Shouldn't it be mandatory to contact the railway control centre before crossing with such a load. I can't understand why they wouldn't have done so otherwise anyway! Absolutely unbelievable attitude.

What defines an EMU or DMU? Is an e300 Eurostar unit (2 x 373s) and EMU?

So that motorised axle on the leading passenger car at each end is what renders them as an EMU rather than LHCS?

What defines an EMU or DMU? Is an e300 Eurostar unit (2 x 373s) and EMU?

But these are only one axle of each end passenger vehicle.

What defines an EMU or DMU? Is an e300 Eurostar unit (2 x 373s) and EMU?

I'm sorry if this has been discussed previously, but, of course, when you try and search using the title you get hundreds of possible threads, none of which seem to fit the bill. My question arises from a discussion I was having on a Facebook group, where it was asserted that a Eurostar e300...
