HS2 Construction Updates - Birmingham Area

There is some absolutely stunning drone footage coming out of this build, it's amazing to see it developing week-by-week. Having grown up in the vicinity of the Bromford Tunnel portal, if this project was started 25 years ago, I'd wager my career would have been a hell of a lot different...

    Storm Goretti disruption - 8/9 January 2026

Getting an Uber or a local taxi for me would be fine and easily done... But - three Voyagers' full of passengers, with inpassable roads? Not so much fun. Oh, and Bromsgrove is not Birmingham, it's a small town in Worcestershire, and absolutely is rural once you're out of the single-street...

    Storm Goretti disruption - 8/9 January 2026

I'm assuming the Lickey Incline is blocked, as there's three voyagers sat at Bromsgrove?

    Storm Goretti disruption - 8/9 January 2026

I live in Bromsgrove, and that station is nowhere near the town... infact shockingly so. I'd not want to end up stranded there that's for sure.

Wrexham, Shropshire & Midlands Railway updates

A lot of talk here is about demand from Shrewsbury, but the train starts at Wrexham, where unlike before, there is much more demand now. Kelloggs is a huge employer and did use the previous iteration fairly regularly, and now DWP have a big presence in the city, so potential civil servant trips...

    CrossCountry's Driver Shortage

A nine car train with only four in use.... I miss the pre-XC days of a 7 or 8 car HST running all the way down to Penzance, a much nicer way to travel.

Wrexham, Shropshire & Midlands Railway updates

There are still gaps in the WCML timetable as a result of Avanti thinning out their services. Those paths, granted, are protected. They shouldn't be. If someone else wants to come in and use them, they should be allowed to. Especially if Avanti withdraw their Wrexham extender, they should...

Strange ticketing situation, BMV - WRX

I can get the same product for £47 which is a saving. If the railway industry operates like that, then road travel will only increase. It's, in my view, utterly shocking. I'll report back how I get on with my rail vouchers at the ticket office, because I'm convinced that's going to be a fun...

Strange ticketing situation, BMV - WRX

I will of course go through Rail UK in future. I mention a criminal act on the basis of being quoted a price (£74) which I can actually get for fourty-odd pounds. Isn't that some form of breach? I'm aware the rail industry is somewhat protected from the "Sales of Goods Act", but I would have...

Strange ticketing situation, BMV - WRX

So, and please excuse my ignorance here. Why is it cheaper to buy returns to Birmingham and then returns to Wrexham? There appears to be absolutely no logic in this at all? I'd go so far as to say, its getting close to a criminal act that I shan't mention at this point.

Strange ticketing situation, BMV - WRX

Hi @Watershed So you are suggesting that TfW would view my travel being (and billed) as if I went south from Bromsgrove, changed at Hereford and then changed at Shrewsbury to give the fare that they are offering to get to Wrexham?

Strange ticketing situation, BMV - WRX

I was never offered the option by TfW, they just sent the vouchers by way of closing my complaint!! Edit: I did complain about the vouchers being unacceptable, but was told to go to the Ombudsman if I wasn't happy. I've seen that TfW don't accept complaints lightly, so my previous appalling...

Strange ticketing situation, BMV - WRX

Thanks for your swift reply Yorkie. Indeed I would use the site's booking engine if I could, but from another thread I posted, I have rail vouchers to use, which I understand can only be used at ticket offices!!! Hence my perplexment when looking at the costs for the through journey! Obviously...

Strange ticketing situation, BMV - WRX

Hi All, I'm looking at tickets for the 9th April, returning 12th April between Bromsgrove (BMV) and Wrexham General (WRX). TfW and West Midlands Railway both offer me a return ticket for £74.90 for the journey. This seems excessive. However, if I buy a return from BMV to Birmingham New...

    Rail Travel Voucher

Hi All, I had a terrible trip with TfW a month or so ago, and complained about my trip. They sent me £20 of "Rail Travel Vouchers" as compensation. The issue is, I live in Bromsgrove and I've never known the ticket office open (nor the shop for that matter). I only ever travel between...
