I like Fort William. It's got everything you need. Yes it's formal, and reminds me of a mini Euston, but for me it's the focal point of the town, and always has a flow of people through it, even when there are no trains due.
Least favourite for me. Cartsdyke has very little going for it...
Is there a reason that the sleepers are going up and down the ECML at the moment?
They pass each other near Darlington each night at about 0230. I've only noticed because we're having to sleep with the windows open and I'm a light sleeper.
I have also noticed electrified freight too...
I personally dislike York. I don't know what it is exactly. It just feels empty and unfinished.
I also don't like Watford Junction. But it's been many years since I've been.
Finally, I don't like Bishop Auckland. The station (if i can call it that), is little more than a platform. I...
Thanks for everyone's input so far. Really interesting, and not as expensive as i thought.
I love Germany and we will probably end up their for my stag do.
My other half has never been abroad before, which is why i am keen to try adn take in as many places as possible. But at the same...
Now then
As you might have guessed from the title, my fiancé and I are getting married early next year. We can't decide what we want to do for the honeymoon, and so I put the idea of a multiple trip to her, and she liked the idea a lot.
We're considering a trip from Scotland to Venice...
I get the impression from what she's told me that the were not fussed about collecting fares/tickets because of the delays and the claims people would be putting in. Also, why if you've travelled for free (when you've tried to pay for a ticket) would you get a return???
--- old post above ---...
She gets to the station about 9.30pm.
The machines at Newc are rather old. Button press rather than touch screen.
The train she normally gets is a TPE (21.44 - I think)
I'll advise her to ask someone.
Hello
Hoping you can help. My other half has a disabled persons railcard. With all of the disruption today, she has made it to Newcastle on a coach where the people have ushered onto a coach without her being able to buy a ticket.
I've told her not to get a ticket just yet because if...
Most of this is very interesting but also complete fantasy.
Bish Auck to Penrith? Makes more sense to build Darlington to Barnard Castle - Stainmore - Kirkby Stephen - and then join the S&C at Appleby. But seeing as there is no direct bus service across the A66, there is clearly no demand...
Morning all
I have treated my old man to a trip north in First Class. I know that you get complimentary food as part of the service, but on here people have said that it's not on all trains, and that the staff may try to fob you off with something cheap (like a sandwich).
He's on the...
Dalmenny to North Queensferry. 3 minutes of pure tedium ;-)
Personally I enjoy all the journeys I make. I am often supposed to be preparing for meetings on the train, but I always find myself distracted by the world as we rush by.
Admittedly the flattness of the ECML can be a drain...
Why doesn't the HS2 route near the Northern end have a link in to the Cross Country route? A simple junction at Tamworth or Lichfield would provide High Speed services to Sheffield and Derby.
