Sign language on train route information displays (and station departure boards)

I'd suspect that the Venn diagram of these people and people who are traumatised by rainbow flags and liveries is pretty much a circle.

Sign language on train route information displays (and station departure boards)

Can you imagine someone complaining about the signers at big pop and rock concerts? "Having that person there cost me an extra 10p on my ticket!". (Incidentally, those signers don't transcribe the lyrics exactly either, they modify it so that it's understandable for people fluent in BSL).

    Thoughts on the Trump presidency

Because renaming the Gulf of Mexico went so well! Mind you, Trump probably thinks it did.

Railway Performance Society "Fastest Times" over the "main" main lines (Jul 2026 edition)

I have seen it wait once for a disrupted 1N15 from King's Cross. However, it wasn't delayed long (5 or 6 minutes) and I suspect there may be issues given the signalbox-worked nature of the Scarborough route.

Metrocar updates and withdrawals - Tyne & Wear Metro

Would have to be battery-powered (or if diesel, have exhaust scrubbers like the WL locomotives). There's a whole bunch of Class 18s lying around doing nothing...?

Cambridge South : no parking (and local CCTV is dissuade anyone from stopping near by...)

For those of us in rural areas with no local station, if we want to use the train we have to drive to the nearest station and leave the car there, which can be very tricky if there is no provided parking. Having said that, parking charges can then put you off again. To give a local example...

Cambridge South : no parking (and local CCTV is dissuade anyone from stopping near by...)

It does. And you can't stop at the side of the only nearby access road (Francis Crick Ave) because you'd be liable to be ticketed for blocking a cycle lane (and there are "no parking" signs there anyway).

Metrocar updates and withdrawals - Tyne & Wear Metro

Apparently so, and supposedly it's 4050 that is going.

Longest distance a road uses an abandoned railway alignment?

The A66 in the Lakes was built on the old railway alignment from just east of Cockermouth, along the edge of Bassenthwaite Lake, to just north of Braithwaite, a distance of some 8 to 9 miles. You can still see the station houses at Embleton and Bassenthwaite Lake next to the road.

Metrocar updates and withdrawals - Tyne & Wear Metro

One more going tomorrow (4029 or 4050). The other four are apparently being kept for the RHTT trains, although they technically only need three (two for the train, one spare).

It's now left, running about 3 hours late.

Metrocar updates and withdrawals - Tyne & Wear Metro

Looks like it hasn't left Gosforth yet, there's a PW issue. Should have been about 9-ish.

Railway Performance Society "Fastest Times" over the "main" main lines (Jul 2026 edition)

Of those five 105mph+ runs, only one was with a electrically series-parallel loco, but that was 47452 which after its 18-months in Crewe Works after the Morpeth crash was regarded by crews as a very quick locomotive. And of course a lot more 47/4s were all-parallel than series-parallel anyway...

Railway Performance Society "Fastest Times" over the "main" main lines (Jul 2026 edition)

In my Class 47 bashing days I regularly recorded timed runs and in a period of five years or so I recorded 47s doing 105mph or more a total of five times. The highest recorded was 112mph between Stafford and Crewe. You can also add 91mph with 47901, which had a speed restriction of 75mph...
