SWR updating booking engine and app on 26 March 2026

I got the email from SWR saying I needed to add my "preferred payment card" to keep my Tap2Go service active. When I tried to add the American Express card I had been using on the old platform, I found that the new platform does not accept American Express cards.

Project Oval: TfL win DfT contract to expand contactless system to 233 rail stations by May 2024, Railcards coming to contactless payment cards

The three smart card validators at Claygate station have been replaced with four new validators of a new design, with the round yellow pads. An email from South Western Railway yesterday states: Followed by a list of stations being upgraded. Today, they sent another email with an updated...

    Class 455/7

You see this on the inside too, with passengers running to the next set of doors when they think the doors aren't working. As built, the 455 doors had a vertical pole either side of the opening, which made the doorway even narrower and meant only one person could get on or off at a time. I...

    Class 455/7

Yes, there is a small sticker inside the car above the Open button that says "To open doors, please push and hold this button", although there is no sticker on the outside of the car. People reasonably expect door open buttons to all work in the same way and therefore aren't looking for...

    Plug sockets for laptop only

As the sticker is on the socket, there is no need to mention it at all as there is nothing else the sticker could be referring to!

    Plug sockets for laptop only

This "Plug socket for laptop battery chargers only" sign amuses me every time I see it. What is a "laptop battery charger" anyway? "Laptops only" would have been easier to understand. "Laptops and mobiles only" would have been better. Or why not a pictogram like almost all other companies use?

Changes to SWR Tap2Go: Railcards can now be added

Yes I believe you need to have enabled Tap2Go. For me, the "Manage Your Railcard" option appears between "Manage Your Smartcards" and "Tap2Go" on the left hand side menu.

Changes to SWR Tap2Go: Railcards can now be added

In an email from SWR on 8 March, they announced that Tap2Go would only take into account tickets loaded onto the same smartcard when calculating the fare. But what they didn't publicise was an additional change which has appeared on the website: "Add up to two Railcards to your Tap2Go account...

    Best smartcard to get

I wish they'd fix this, along with the misleading error message telling you to order a new "Smarcard" when the card is full.

    Best smartcard to get

Yes I know. I tried to load a new ticket with the app, but it gave an error that the smartcard was full and I needed to order a new one. I presume the app didn't have the capability to remove expired tickets.

    Best smartcard to get

When my Chiltern smartcard filled up with 5 tickets and I tried to add another using the app, I got an error telling me the smartcard was full and I needed to order a new one! So I gave up and went back to paper tickets. This was a couple of years ago and hopefully the app is now able to remove...
