Examples of Platforms built out over old tracks

What's also interesting is that the original track was left in situ with the new platform built on top of it. You can just about see the old track in that small gap in the photo.

    Alarms on Platform ends.

I noticed this warning announcement too when I visited Deal earlier this year. Never heard it anywhere else. The location of it could definitely be improved (moved one lamp post towards the end) to stop annoying/worrying people genuinely wanting to wait there for the train.

Tavistock - Bere Alston Feasibility Study in jeopardy. But what could be done if the money was available?

It was the mid-00s that the project was first being seriously mapped out. 20 years later and we're still no further on!

Trivia: Cricket Grounds Visible From Trains.

The railway line is quite literally the boundary at Cullompton, Devon. Its a small ground as well so you often end up with balls all over the tracks. Also a mention to Grampound Road CC in Cornwall where I spent a lot of my time in years gone by. For a village that owes it's entire existence to...

    British Railways Operators Map

I commend you on creating such a layout! I found a few niggly bits that shouldn't be too difficult to put right: GWR Axminster service doesn't call at Whimple I would remove the station line at Yeoford which goes through the Okehampton line. While you can see the station from the train, you...

TRIVIA: Most circuitous shortest route by rail

Until the direct train ceased to be, you could catch a train from St Budeaux Victoria Road to St Budeaux Ferry Road. A distance of 6 MILES by train, or 6 METRES by foot!

TRIVIA: Most circuitous shortest route by rail

Liskeard to Coombe Junction - 2 miles by train or half a mile by foot. Starcross to Exmouth - 19 miles by train or 1.5 miles by bird

How close does a replacement bus stop need to be to a station?

In the case of Looe Valley line, the replacement bus stop for Causeland is over a mile away in Duloe up one very steep hill! I should know as I've walked it! At least its convenient (and quicker) for those who live in Duloe. Same goes for St Keyne Wishing Well Halt where the bus...

    Least disrupted route or station

According to ORR's most recent statistics for Period 11 (most of January), the stations with the most reliable service were Buckenham, Lelant Saltings and Stourbridge Town, with no services cancelled and all running within 3 minutes of schedule.

    Tatty stations

Pilning. I visited the other week and the station approach was littered with fly tipped rubbish. The platform in use has a worn out bus shelter and fencing. And that's before you look over to the now disused platform which is crawling with weeds after 8 years of closure. The whole place needs...

    Stupid questions from passengers

Some that I've heard from staff... At Newquay: Which platform does the London train depart from? (There's only one) At Liskeard: Does the Penzance train go to Plymouth? At Bodmin Parkway: Pax: When does the coach for the 1518 to London turn up? I've been waiting at the bus stop for ages but...

    Cornwall Metro funding approved

There's also a passing loop at St Blazey which passes trains every so often as well.

Trivia – train services in Great Britain not serving any Labour constituency and other constituency trivia

    Cornwall Metro funding approved

The plan is to build an extra platform at Newquay, and an extra passing loop at Tregoss Moor (where the local services will pass each other). This gives you the infrastructure to run a consistent hourly local service, plus the summer long-distance trains as well as clay trains to/from...

    Okehampton - 3 Years On

The footbridge is owned by Devon County Council. Although I have no idea if there are plans to repair it.
