It would have the same problem as GARL in that it would use capacity at Central. I’d prefer a surface tram via Broomielaw, Pacific Quay, QEUH, Braehead, Renfrew and AMIDS.
Is there a likelihood of installing digital signalling on the Argyle Line when the new trains arrive? I remember Alex Hynes saying they were looking into it a few years ago. He said they could make it even more of a metro line than it currently is.
I assume all new trains are future proofed for...
That corridor is probably the best candidate for a new line, but would heavy rail have a better business case than surface tram? Tram train spending a lot of time on unsegregated roads would likely import delays to the Argyle Line so perhaps wouldn’t be a good idea.
I’m thinking about the sheer number of flats/student beds under construction/planned within walking distance of Anderston and Exhibition Centre stations. We’re looking at an additional 9000 residents, mainly car-free. Dalmarnock also has significant residential development ongoing.
There’s...
The Argyle Line will require an increase in capacity to handle the pipeline of thousands of new residents in Anderston and Finnieston. Ideally the frequency would be increased to 8tph-10tph.
The councils had developed plans to build a £150 million people mover using City Deal funding. However, when Clyde Metro became a thing it was decided that a people mover wasn’t the best option and the funding was reallocated to other City Deal projects.
SPT is currently working on the Clyde...

I see this complaint a lot online but you have to acknowledge that education has become a significant export earner for the city. Glasgow University is spending over a billion pounds on new buildings, funded in part by income from foreign students. The university is a success story...
The article states that 33.4 million people used Central last year. However, the ORR figure for 24/25 was 25.3 million. How are these figures reconciled? Are figures produced for calendar years as well as financial years? If the annual figure is now over 33 million, which is higher than pre...
A couple of questions from a layman if you don’t mind:-
- what, if anything, does the suburban fleet procurement strategy tell us about how Transport Scotland thinks Clyde Metro will affect the heavy rail network? Do we infer that the Argyle Line and Cathcart routes are expected to continue as...
Do you know for sure that there aren’t enough EMUs for East Kilbride? Ayr and Gourock are both still 2tph down. Even allowing for the extra 1tph to Wemyss Bay and 1 EMU per hour to Barrhead there should be enough slack in the fleet to cover East Kilbride.
Ayr and Gourock both lost 2tph. Wemyss Bay gained 1tph and Barrhead now has 1 emu per hour. Perhaps some of the spare units which were reallocated to provide longer trains on other services could be reallocated to EK. I can’t believe that the SG would knowingly put itself in the position of...
How about a new line to Glasgow Airport? I like the idea of branching off the Argyle Line just west of Exhibition Centre station, descending into a new tunnel under the Clyde and with surface stations at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Braehead (serving Renfrew), Advanced Manufacturing District and...
