    Air con is all very well but you have to MAINTAIN it, if an aircon equipped bus has fewer or no opening windows then failure makes it even worse on board than a bus which had no air con in the first place

    Maintaining aircon isn’t rocket science it is basic equipment and need not be massively costly, yes it does incur a bit more fuel consumption. The industry should be thinking about its customers though, how many people swear off public transport after an unpleasant journey on a hot summer day...

    21 out of 22 now on the road and that has got rid of all Caetano buses except for 10 of them.

    Those BMC buses have done pretty well to see nearly 20 years of use, lots of people said they were cheap rubbish when new and that they wouldn’t last.

    This is all really interesting, thanks for the detailed replies. It sounds somewhat inconsistent, do things tend to be best in the areas where bus services have historically considered to be operated well, such as Brighton/Reading/Nottingham/Oxford and Edinburgh?

    Is there an idiots guide to all of this somewhere? I thought it was a case of, operators supply data to local authorities, data is then uploaded to Traveline. Maybe a flowchart would be useful if one exists.

    Thanks, though maybe I didn't get my question quite right, I was meaning who does data feeds the best, where everything works really well on a bus tracker web site or app. Some operators services aren't represented very well on the likes of bustimes which probably means that the bus open dataset...
