The whole ‘via…’ is quite unnecessarily unless there is more than one route. It’s ok for ‘Via Birmingham New St’ for Glasgow to Euston - or ‘via Northampton’ for New St to Euston- n

Can’t you? There isn’t any rail competition from Northampton as there is only one operator. For example, a ticket from MK to Bham offers two operator fares , one significantly cheaper than the other. Same with fares to Euston. Northampton only has the substandard services (LNR) and only one set...

Considering how large Northampton is, its rail service is very poor. No competition either so turn up and go tickets can be v expensive too.

I did the former on Sunday and the service was horrific. Took LNWR service to Crewe (delayed) missed connection at Crewe… 40 min wait at Crewe. The LNWR service was 4 carriages and full and standing for the entire journey. Then no service to Glasgow as the 18:09 was the last. I live near...
