Manual signal box problems were just for that box. The section would bypass that box until it was fixed. Older diesels could have problems that didn't disable it, although sometimes there were total failures of course. Mechanical ones, not IT having a fit over a dirty windscreen or something...
Yet another 'don't put all your eggs in one basket' scenario. Like software on trains that fails the whole unit for some minor fault that doesn't physically prevent the train running, except the computer says no. Like Cross Country a few days ago. Like banks, supermarkets and airports having a...
Flip Around doesn't seem to understand the difference between turning, reversing and running around. Diesel and electric locos do it as well, if needed.
There are no points between Crediton and Okehampton, it is a very long siding. Just the crossover at Crediton. Why can't these be hand operated? Don't point levers exist any more? Always sensible to have a manual backup.
Went to Okehampton (Town) yesterday to see if there had been any reduction in passengers. The girl in the buffet said yes, morning commuters had reduced to 3 or 4 coming in for coffee from around 20ish.
Leisure travel is holding up though, as these pics show. The 15.23 dep with 158 769. First...

I don't remember whole areas being brought to a halt in the 60's to 80's, perhaps 90's. The eggs in one basket comments seem closer to the truth than anything else.
SPF's shouldn't be possible, it's just blind faith in new tech. If it's new and big and flashy, it must be good seems to be the...
I looked at the site yesterday at just after 6pm. Quiet car park but, some would have gone home by that time.
Signs like this don't really help though.
They must have been told to put the sign where the older one is, so they did.......
Devon Council have been informed, with the same...
Okehampton Town as it should now be called, has the Youth Hostel next door in the old goods shed. Cycle hire next to that, direct access to Dartmoor via a footbridge over the A30 and is close to the residents in that part of town. Plenty still going for it, although I can see winter usage...
