    Since when did it become a problem for staff to have a laugh and joke? There is nothing unprofessional about that. In fact, I would much see jovial employees - they are clearly getting some enjoyment from their work. Unlike some people.

    It's good news to hear that the survey and planning work has already started! I'm not sure if this is true but I'd read that electrification may have stopped at Bristol as the water ingress into the Severn Tunnel presented a severe risk. Presumably the engineers found a solution to this...

    Is there any need for a Manchester city centre HS station? Why not just have the HS line run roughly equidistant between Manchester and Liverpool and interchange on the soon to be electrified Manc - Liv line. That would avoid an awful lot of extra building work and expense in running new HS...
