I've been asking myself this question. Doing so would've caused a same station exit first, which would then have been voided by touching back in within 45 minutes.
But I doubt that this would have restored the original OSI. I assume the incomplete journey wouldn't be there, but still two...
I got into a confusing situation recently traveling from Charing Cross to Ealing Broadway via Paddington.
After touching out of LU I intended to catch a service from platform 14. The gateline for platforms 12-14 was open, but I did touch in of course which later proved to be a mistake...
Being a hopeless train nerd myself I find this very inspiring, of course. It's basically all over the German media right now.
But just some observations:
- I wouldn't call it exactly "living on the train". What this girl does is rather long distance commuting between three or four cities in...
I travel this particular one rather often (starting from Munich): it's pleasant enough but nowhere near as spectacular as some of the Swiss options mentioned already. If I had to choose an alpine crossing, it would probably be my fourth choice after Bernina, Gotthard and Lötschberg (mountain...
Yes, but there is a different fare for the day sailing (£10 cheaper). The ticket specifies in its "Route" section whether it's valid for the day or night sailing. You also get a separate coupon with the ferry reservation.
Blimey, this does seem to work again!
A few weeks ago I tried to book one from London to Belfast and it only offered the Advance variety. Back then I thought they might have changed this on purpose, since the fares were often abused as "Cheap Anytime Singles" from London to Scotland...
Virgin's booking system actually informed me quite clearly that a BoJ was not allowed with this ticket. I can still see this remark when I access the booking in my account history.
Which leads to another question: as I said, without that incident I could have easily made the 0747 to London...
Wifi on trains and coaches, if it's supposed not to be completely useless, requires an excellent coverage with fast mobile data service (LTE). Unfortunately, the mobile network operators put their focus on covering the motorway network for a long time, while railway lines seemed to be their...
And this ticket was for an overnight journey as well? (Since you CAN get from Dublin to Dundee via Holyhead on one day when travelling on the morning ferry...)
Apparently ATW have set all Sailrail fares for which they are responsible using the same rules and restrictions. I'm about to write...
The two ICE services will have Wifi but you'll be charged for it as you're travelling standard class. A day pass costs 4,95 Euros.
Stuttgart, Munich and Frankfurt stations are all equipped with Wifi which is free for 30 minutes as theblackwatch said.
Just to clarify: that "smart alec line" wasn't used by me but suggested by another user. What I did was indeed an explanation as to my itinerary and why I had to continue my journey on the 20th after arriving on the overnight ferry.
I believe this person just lost his temper because he was...
Thanks to everyone for sharing your opinion on this matter. It appears to be more complicated than I thought after all.
So far I've understood that a fare and its restrictions are being created by one specific train company and then somehow fed into the booking database to be used by any...
You see, that was the question I kept asking myself during the ride from Liverpool to London: would things have been different had I noticed the "error" right after ticket collection?
I don't think so, since according to that Virgin ticket office lady it was generally not possible to "change"...
Just being back from a Sailrail tour to Ireland and back I want to share a pretty embarrassing experience caused by some fault in Virgin Trains' ticketing system.
For my return journey I purchased a Sailrail from Belfast to Gatwick Airport via the overnight ferry to Birkenhead. The booking...
