Thameslink to replace cushions on class 700 ironing board seats to improve comfort.. Finally..

It is an oddity; I and family travel thameslink London Bridge to Cambridge several times a year - for various accessibility reasons it’s easier than transferring to the tube to King’s Cross. Usually we use the 1st class compartment at the rear but only last week we took standard - after 1.5...

Euston - Edinburgh Sunday 30 August seat reservations

Last day of the festival is Sunday, so fingers crossed ok for northbound. The Lancaster Edinburgh train has plenty of reservable seats too which is a good omen. We will be at Euston super early. Thanks again! Hopefully the Preston supporters will be quiet given it’s their return journey the day...

Euston - Edinburgh Sunday 30 August seat reservations

Small family emergency means I need to travel with my 13yo from London to Edinburgh on Sunday 30 August. Return via lner the following week all good and booked with one perks and good seats. But avanti is eus-Edb via Preston, and offers seat reservations from the Preston-Edb leg (and I can...

    Incident at Sheffield - 24/06/2026

And that is why IMHO this forum is quite nice - folk can float a theory and (for the most part) get non-vitriolous feedback. Reason being why I for the most part avoid social media... Back to the thread it's normal for humans to interpret connection when there is none - e.g. its just...

    Pink reader (again)

It was petty of me, but citing https://tfl.gov.uk/fares/touch-pink-card-reader-when-changing-trains#on-this-page-2 TfL gave me my 60p refund. Yes the single fare finder says to touch the pink reader, but how many people check that Any I knows now to tap the pink readers regardless.

    Pink reader (again)

Ah thanks all. So it’s just safer to do what I was doing before yesterday and always tap the pink reader. I hadn’t even considered going via Farringdon and thameslink to London Bridge.

    Pink reader (again)

I often travel Moorgate to Forest Hill, using the Elizabeth line to Whitechapel, changing there for the Windrush line down to Forest Hill. Yesterday I read this page https://tfl.gov.uk/fares/touch-pink-card-reader-when-changing-trains#on-this-page-2 and didn’t use the pink reader, as it...

    Potential South London improvement ideas?

Thank you. I have wondered for many years why that was - the platforms are in good condition with seating and PIS etc. and hence a mystery

    Proposed Overground frequency increases

Twixmas. Totally forgotten it’s a Saturday!

    Proposed Overground frequency increases

And today, 27 December, Southern are running 5 car trains on the Sydenham corridor which are standing room only to London Bridge - full of leisure travellers off shopping and visiting family.

    Proposed Overground frequency increases

Yes, the morning peak services regularly take 20 minutes or so - it's only 80p more than the Overground/Jubilee option though and at in my experience near 100% chance of getting a seat. 1766000988 ^^This. I guess it's money saving in track charges etc. but normally the Overground is running...

    Proposed Overground frequency increases

Well we now have 4 tph between 0730 and 0915 from Forest Hill into London Bridge, and 1700 to 1810 from LBG southbound give or take a few minutes. More importantly it would be nice to have 8 or 10 car Southrn trains at the weekend which can be rammed, as Southern run them as 4/5 cars. An...

Lisbons funicular suffers catastrophic runaway (03/09)

Horrendous. I was there just two weeks ago and used that tram many times. At the top there are two tracks which merge into one later after about fifty metres (the whole length is around 250m). There is a security guard who looks after the top tram when it closes between about 2100 to...

What are your 3 favourite major London stations?

Agree, it's got a nice 1960s optimistic vibe (cognisant of the vandalistic demolishion of its predecessor). I'm not a peak hour user so see its limitations.
