231/756s are, at the moment, guard open/ guard close.
398s are DDO (Driver Door Operation) unless in degraded, then it’s FCDO (Full Conductor Door Operation).
The door protocol for the 398s will then pass onto the 231s & 756s in the future.
Yeah, in the end 5Q02 was just 231001 on its own. It was in the platform at Rhymney ready to couple up but unfortunately, 231003 didn’t have enough power to shunt from the sidings so was left there. Luckily, a technician came later and fixed a part and it ended up travelling down later that day...
For anyone interested, there will be an 8-car 231 tomorrow from Rhymney sidings to Cardiff Canton (231001 + 231003) due to leave at 13:17 on 5Q02. Usually it is normally 1x 231 but due to 231003 failing during morning prep in Rhymney sidings Saturday morning, it requires rescuing...
We have both conductors and drivers based at Taffs Well. Conductors based at Taffs Well right now, book on there and travel to Cardiff to collect their equipment.
No timescale at the moment unfortunately. All depending on how the 398s will do. The test runs tonight were with both a mainline and valleys driver and guard.
All valley crews (Cardiff, Treherbert, Barry, Taffs Well & Rhymney) are all trained on 756s so it’s just waiting for testing of the 756s on the Rhymney line to be complete and authorisation of them into passenger use on Rhymney & Bargoed services.
Apparently 231002 and 756108 are both currently working to Pontypridd on 5Q40 from Cardiff Canton then back to Central and to later return from Central on 5Q41 and return back to Cardiff Canton. Not sure how true it is for both of these to be operating together but according to internal...
There’s a BTET in place on the Coryton line due to engineering works on the Rhymney line and unfortunately, the 756s were losing time as the signaller had to inform each driver to ban the pantographs before they entered the Coryton line
I believe the issue with 231s on the VOG is they are too big for the bay platform at Bridgend hence the reason for the 3 car 756s being used. At the moment, it’s still up the air in terms of who’s going to be doing the VOG going forwards whether it be valleys or remain mainline or mixture of...
The 231s will be operating to Maesteg, Cheltenham and Ebbw Vale. Only the 3 car 756s will operate to the Bridgend via the VOG.

150251 was back out last night working 2R60 to Rhymney where it stabled overnight.

Unfortunately, we’ve had an internal brief stating that we can...
It is mainline crew that operate the VOG services. Although, it is still up in the air at the moment on who’s going to be doing what in terms of valley line crews doing the VOG services alongside mainline crews or just solely valley crews or if mainline crew will get trained up on the 756s.
We are aware of an issue with emails from the Forum to Microsoft-based email accounts (hotmail/outlook/live.com email addresses). This is being looked into currently, thanks for your patience meanwhile.
