Thanks for the explanation though does seem odd that the first two called. Another oddity on the 1643 was that no explanation was given for not stopping and it wasn't announced until about 5 minutes before leaving Lime Street.
Yesterday I was on 1643 Liverpool to Euston formed of 805008 and 805009. Shortly before departure it was announced it wouldn't be stopping at Runcorn. My first thought, as the train was overcrowded, was that they were limiting local passengers on the train and we would make a stop to pick up...
It's never been suggested by SWR that the reduced timetable is due to a shortage of units but it probably helps. Even so there are still a number of short formed trains, particularly in the peaks. What is very frustrating is that there is no pattern to the reduced formations, they vary from day...

Not got any inside information but there are 7 or 8 159/0 that haven't been out for about 10 days. Not sure abou the 159/1. I wonder if formations will improve next week with the reduced service west of Salisbury, though schedules are longer.

In the last week there has been a huge increase in short formations on the West of England line. Today nearly all Exeter trains have been 3 cars West of Salisbury. The morning and evening peak has had a number of 3 and even 2 car trains to and from Waterloo. The reason has variously been given...
There seem to be a few trains skipping Crewkerne this week, 0620 HON - WAT, 0725 EXD - WAT among otherss. As usual with SWR you have to look deep into the website to find any information and all I can find about Crewkerne is that it won't be served from Monday 28th. I can see the reasoning but...
