TfW Class 67+Mk4 sets: trip planning/experiences, diagram updates etc

Swansea is very good at holding connections, but I guess has the luxury of the lines west of here being fairly quiet. I’m going to Glasgow in a few weeks on an advance which assumes the MkIV is running throughout, I guess I’m best placed to arrive in time to catch the preceding GWR, and if...

TfW Class 67+Mk4 sets: trip planning/experiences, diagram updates etc

The 0543 from Swansea has been a 150 all this week, and cancelled outright once. The connection to the MkIV stock at Cardiff central looks very tight, changing from 3 or 0 to 1. Any ideas if the MkIV is held for the connection, or when this will go back to being a MkIV throughout?

    GWR First Class (plus Pullman)

The Swansea one will do 2-3 sittings if busy, and even serve into the adjoining coach if possible. I’ve never not eaten, even if I have had to bide my time elsewhere before being invited through.

Are drivers trained on what to expect to feel from a derailment?

Out of interest, are drivers trained on what to expect to feel from a derailment? Or it is just a case of “that feels wrong, I’ll stop safely and inspect”?

Swansea-Fort William travel advice (for event starting from Ben Nevis at 0900)

I did, but the 1000 arrival (and only seats left) would see me miss our planned start at 0900 on Ben Nevis! I’d rather not if possible - got caring responsibilities and going away for two nights is already a push. 1786714782 Actually this isn’t a bad idea, presumably the sleeper at Crewe is...

Swansea-Fort William travel advice (for event starting from Ben Nevis at 0900)

Hi all, In early October I’m doing the Three Peaks, and want to get up to Fort William to start with Ben Nevis the next morning. I imagined my route would be Swansea - Crewe (preferably a 67/225), then Glasgow, and Fort William. It’s looking less easy than I imagined, I’ve got not issue with...

Anybody had a train wait for them a minute or more as you ran along the platform/footbridge?

GWR are pretty good at this. My train at Paddington was held for 4 minutes on Tuesday night with the first/rear most door open and the guard standing by it shepherding running people in. My experience with southern is that they enjoy watching you miss a connection

Altnabreac station and the various legal disputes around it

Potentially not relevant because this is in England, but I’ve had issues recently doing work from a right of way, and instead of having to get land owners permission, even though I won’t deviate from the right way. This has been enforced by the client, a public body

Lumo running train with no toilets

I don’t know about 222s but the GWR 800s’ non-accessible loos have a manual door that will allow you to enter and then discover that it won’t flush and you can’t wash your hands… but you would have privacy.

GWR changing app/website provider on 24th February

New app allows you to click straight through to their new delay repay portal, bringing the ticket details through… incorrectly. And as they aren’t currently sending confirmation emails when tickets are booked via the app, they’ve made delay repay less easy that it was!

Train drivers’ decades-long ticket fraud ‘cost taxpayer millions

Is Sheffield highlighted for context? I can’t see black circle on the legend.

Heritage Railway stations where the train is faster / slower than driving

East Somerset Railway is probably faster by light jog.

    Class 175s to GWR

I’ve just checked some photos and you’re right. There’s an orange OHLE warning stripe above it and I must have mixed them together in my mind!
