When this railtour got back to St Pancras what would have been empty stock to Derby became a relief. It was hauled by 47355 with 45112 on the rear. Therefore this was the last hauled train out of the old train shed.

I travelled in one of those Mark 1 buffets in September 1999 from Bristol to Chippenham on a service to Paddington. The hauled set was replacing a HST.

It didn't smell on Thursday either. On a normal day you would be lucky to get half a dozen bashers on these trains. I've been on them many times and been the only enthusiast onboard. The only trouble I have ever seen has been caused by the local Cumbrian drinking fraternity.

The track on the far side of the disused island platform was a siding with a buffer stop. When they built the Littlewoods shop in the mid Sixties the supports went into the track bed. Therefore I don't think there was enough clearance for that line to join to the main line.

According to previous posts the Manchester Wayfarer can be bought at ticket offices outside the Manchester area. Can anybody tell me what the booking clerk would need to type in their computer to find the ticket? I ask because I'm sure when I try to get one it will confuse them!
