Travelling on London midland 172342 yesterday in the centre carriage and soon as we start moving there is a regular rhythm banging noise. I knew it was from coming from the wheels as they turned and it got slightly quieter at higher speeds. I've heard it on 172331 and 172341 before but it was...
The latter Northern didn't sound too healthy actually.

Went on 168215 two weeks ago from Birmingham and I couldn't believe it when there were automated announcements (same as LM really)for each stop. I didn't think the 168s had this feature. Be interesting if the 168s came out in silver.
Wow, didn't expect Chiltern's 172 going down to LO. Although when GOBLIN is electrified, will they go to LM and replace some of the 153s or 170s there? Do you know which 170s would come down; I'll assume the older units although prefer the 2004/2005 sets as the cab ends with the new light...
Nice idea; bit complicated though I'd probably just take the additional 8 units! Although I've warmed to having a 172/2 set sandwiched between 172/0s at peak hours.
