Err having been involved with forward planning I would respectfully suggest that this would not be the case. A lot of designers and engineers are somewhat stuck in a rut.
I agree about the seconds and the fact that it isn't advertised so a lot of people will not know of it's existence. But having struggled with two large pieces of luggage on the metro before the fact that you can have your hands on your kit before the door opens is a boon.
I notice that Nexus are quick to blame failures on Network Rail overhead equipment even though it was installed to Nexus requirements and specifications.
I had my first trip out on one of the new beasts. From Heworrh to South Shields and back. Nice trains but really uncomfortable in the seats. I honestly contemplated standing.
