Which route would you take trainee driver

I was a main line driver for WAGN which became ONE and then NX between 2002 to 2008 I am now trying to find my way back in. Do i try as a trainee and say nothing or do i get my foot back in the door and work my way up.
Been looking at all sorts of rail jobs any advice.....:

well everytime i apply and tell the truth i dont even get a reply however going in as a trainee i am awaiting short listing you would think it would be cheaper to re train me than pay around 100k to train a new driver

Go as a qualified as your driver competence will last for 5 years after that you will have to start from scratch. you have a much better chance as a qualified driver than not in getting back in as a driver.
