Note regarding the 58s at Eastleigh:

These locomotives will be sold as seen and as and where lying. As these Locomotives cannot be removed by either rail or road, the successful bidder(s) will be required to dismantle the Locomotives from their present site at their own expense and without any assistance from DBSR.

Are these the two sitting on piles of sleepers rather than bogies?

Well 58037 was robbed for spares and left in the open I believe so possibly it isn't sufficiently safe to transport

Why are the 37s in France?

They were used for infrastructure work over there and presumably it was cheaper to leave them there then bring them home.

I'd suggest that's probably assuming the staff involved in these decisions are sentimental about such things.

They were actually recently moved from Spain to France after being used by Continetal Rail of Spain to build High Speed lines in Spain. This also involved 58s. The locomotives carry Continental Rail Light blue.
58017 and 037 are bogie less.
Thanks, Sam

I think there's a Continental Light Blue 37 currently in Canton, covered with a big stripy tarpaulin. Looked like a huge 37-shaped tent. Gave me an idea for a trainspotter/camper - related business pitch for Dragons' Den.

Anybody know where abouts in Eastleigh the two 58s are? Ie, are they visible by road?

When I was there last year, you could just see the front of one by the gate :)

37308 being overhauled by Alliance Rail for the record, arrived from Eastleigh behind 50044 back in 2010 :)
