trainee driver maths??

Hi there just wondering if anyone can help. I have applied for trainee train driver with first scot rail, i have been waiting for ages for a position to come up and now I am panicking about assessments. Does anyone know if any maths questions are involved, I am really not very good at maths and have been out of school for over 10 years. I hope that I could deal with any other tests but maths really freaks me out - any advice

I doubt it. Now if it was Ticket Office or Conductor it'd be a different matter. What you will have to do is Group-Bourdon Tool - Google it.

I took the ScotRail train driver assessments last year and was not tested on maths.

Not Maths but Physics to a certain degree if you have to do the Mechanical tests

thanks to everyone for replying, it would be great if there was no maths not that it will be easy - assessments are not my strong point I am more a on work training sort of person!!

have you been successful with your application. i applied for the glasgow trainee driver posts but the application is still saying awaiting shortlisting. the closing date was on the 3/2/12 but i see they started recruiting again almost immediately, is this standard practice or just not a high enough standard of applicant.

I would recommend brushing up on your maths. If only to work out all your overtime payments !

As far as Im led to believe, the initial sift is done by an outside company. If the applicant has made it through and passed all of the person requirements then its passed back to Scotrail for assessments etc.

i take it this rules out anybody putting friends/family through to the assessment stages then ;D

I doubt that will stop any favours from taking place. It's pretty standard on the railway, if you know the right person and your face fits you'll get the job regardless of how incompetent you are.

i've seen it all before but i thought it would be different with actually driving a train as opposed to just generally working on the railway.
surely there's to much cost involved in training to put your mates son/nephew/friend through and give them the job regardless of how hopeless they might be.
