I was looking at the prices between Feltham and Reading... A 1 month season ticket costs £289; however a Anytime Return Ticket costs £12. That means I have to do al least 24 day trips to save some money within that month!!!

How can they say it's worth it??

Welcome to the Forum :)

How many days do you need to use train to travel between Feltham and Reading?

Buying the season ticket would only save you money if you are using the ticket 7 days a week.

It may be cheaper for you to buy Return tickets each day if you are only using the Train 5 days out of 7.

Reason is that an anytime day return in the other direction is £21 odd - the season is priced on that basis

Often happens with counterflow commuting.

As far as I know, FCC is the only TOC to offer Carnet tickets for commuters - Im 98% sure SWT don't, sadly.

Chiltern, Scotrail, First Capital Connect, Grand Central, Virgin, East Coast, East Midlands and First Hull Trains are the only companies who offer Carnet Tickets.

First Great Western also offer carnets on some routes in Devon and Cornwall.

It depends on the month though.

For February it's a very bad deal.

But if you bought a Season commencing 5 March 2012, and ending 5 April 2012, that's £298.20 (01 month & 01 days) for 24 working days in that 5 week period (I am assuming that you won't work Easter Friday), which is 'only' £10.20 more than the price of 24 x tickets, but for the extra £10.20 you would then save money if you did just one extra trip for leisure purposes, and saves the time and hassle of purchasing individual tickets.

To save yourself a bit of time queuing at the TVM or ticket office, you could buy your tickets online for as many days travel as you want and collect them from one of the TVMs at Feltham or Reading station (although you can collect them from any SWT station and, most likely, any FGW station too).

The SWT and FGW websites won't charge you a booking fee for buying your tickets and you can collect them at a time to suit you (e.g. on your way home from work when there's less likely to be a queue for the machines.)

Or you could buy a week's worth at a go from any booking office, at a time convenient to you.

Most websites only allow you to have a couple of sets of tickets in your basket, so you might end up with a long list of codes to type in - perhaps someone more familiar can advise a website which will allow booking of many tickets with a single retrieval code?

Tickets bought from any website will be available for collection from any TVM (as long as it has ticket collection facilities).

Trainline-powered sites give you one code per ticket, WebTIS ones such as eastcoast.co.uk give you one code for the whole booking.
