Hard to enforce for us guys though - 'uncaring rail company' headlines etc.:(

Yes, it was definitely Barnsley. I wasn't there but understand from others who saw the aftermath that the scooter was badly mangled, presumably the driver badly shaken and the casualty very lucky to still be alive. I don't think she came away in one piece though...

Without going off topic, please study the highway code. Bicycles are NOT allowed on bridleways. The only accepted users are horse riders and pedestrians.

Bicycles are allowed on bridleways.

See (for instance http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Environ...reenertravel/Enjoyingthecountryside/DG_187666, or Natural England)

footpath – open to walkers only
bridleway – open to walkers, horse-riders and cyclists; cyclists must give way to walkers or horse-riders
restricted byway – open to walkers, cyclists, horse-riders and horse-drawn vehicles
byway open to all traffic (red arrow) – open to walkers, cyclists, horse-riders, horse-drawn vehicles and motor vehicles

You got there before me. Thank you for making sure the facts are clarified. :)

Well what can I say? There needs to be a way of getting mobility scooters across train tracks, it's why we need more subways.

Or accessible footbridges, which I am certain would be cheaper.

EDIT - 142094's reply was slightly better!

I realized afterwards it was the platform problem or something like that, whoops?
@142094 I'd rather help the disabled, and here's a perfect example.

So would I, but not everyone who uses a mobility scooter is disabled, and more to the point, some TOCs cannot accomodate mobility scooters on stations or trains. There has to be a maximum size to be able to be carried.

It should also be pointed out that electric wheelchairs perform the same operation yet are much easier to carry, and usually have lower speeds.

Or just a problem with Barnsley in particular (i.e. those who live there).

A few years back I was on a Leeds - Sheffield stopper, a lad got on at Barnsley then proceeded to make a drug deal using one of his three mobile phones. He had a wad of £50 notes tucked into his sock. I don't think I've ever seen anything so blatant in my life.

We are not all that bad y'know ;)

I have - the three people snorting cocaine (I assume - it could have been talc but that didn't fit with their behaviour) off a table on an FCC service to Hitchin (well, beyond Hitchin but that's where both they and I were going).

I don't think I'd want to be snorting anything off a table in an FCC train!

I don't think I'd want to carry out any activity relating to a FCC table - not even so much as laying an Evening Standard on it. The cover pages might become too filthy to read...

Doesn't coke wear off after about 20 minutes? No idea how long it takes to work in the first place though, as I've never tried it. But, it does make me wonder how addicted you'd need to be to do a line on a train!

Regular thing on the Ivanhoe Line.
