Hello all.

I barely know how I have the composure to write this.

I'm in a nightmare situation. I've just got off the 0803 from Chinley to Liverpool South Parkway. Problem is I've somehow and I don't honestly know how, left my railcard wallet on the train containing my ticket, bank card and of course railcard.

I'll need 3 trains to get home, A) how do I get home and B) who should I contact with regards to lost property.

I'm in bits at the moment.

:(

First of all take a deep breath, if you are at a manned station go to the booking office or info point and tell them what train you were on, they shouls be able to contact the relevent customer service people eho csn then contact the guard on the train, hopefully it will be found and handed in

Regards getting home, I think there is a mechanism for stranded passengers whereby you can ask someone else to go to their ticket office and pay for a ticket for you to collect from Liverpool South Parkway.

Even tho I have heard about that before, to be honest I don't know if it is a myth or not

I got off at Mossley Hill after changing at South Parkway. It was there I realised what had happened.

Because my train terminated at Lime St, should I travel there later? I'm currently at University.

If it has been found it should go to Lime St. I would try and get the number for the left luggage franchise or the TOC u travelled with to see first.

Well in regards to B your best bet would be to contact Liverpool Lime Street as it is there that the wallet will have been handed in most probably (especially if it was cleaned between services). Failing that you may have to contact East Midlands Train as there is a chance it will have been found later on a return service.

You can contact Liverpool Lime Street lost property on this number: 0151 707 8594 you could also visit the facility as it's open until 17:00.

East Midlands Train have this number for people looking for lost property: 0115 957 6525 however they ask you to wait 24 hours before calling (and its based at Nottingham).

As for A you can use the SILK arrangement mentioned above so head to a manned booking office and explain your situation and also contact a friend/family member who is willing to pay.

I don't suppose you have enough information to go to a branch of you bank and withdraw money over the counter do you?

I'll go to Lime Street anyway.

Is there any chance I could get myself issued with an Unpaid Fare Notice? I'm willing to pay but have £2 in my bag and that's it, this situation is ridiculous. On the one day I need to go to Uni all 5 days as well! Grrrr! I'll probably have to get a new railcard tonight if needs be.

If you retained the receipt you can apply for a duplicate railcard that costs £5, hope this helps!

Emergency Cash from Natwest means I can get home. And I think I have my receipt for my railcard.

There is such a mechanism, known as SILK (Stranded Individual Location Known). The guidance on how to use SILK was updated just last year, it allows a remote person to pay for the home journey at a TVM once the Stranded Individual has started the process at a Booking Office.

The Stranded person needs to find a friend with a payment card who can go to a staffed station then they must go to the Booking Office where they are stranded to seek assistance through the SILK scheme.

Used emergency cash thankfully, had to gain 'special permission' for that as well. Why? As I'd already cancelled my card and not do the actions separately despite being told otherwise on the phone, so what could I do? Let someone potentially plunder my account and cancel it at 1:30 when I needed the cash or cancel it and stop any dodgy activity at 11am and be potentially stranded. I told them in no uncertain how dissatisfied I would be if they allowed me to be stranded, SILK wasn't an option open to me, parents at work! They gave in and I got £20 out the bank.

I have found the receipt for my railcard, that'll be replaced later at Buxton.

Cost £15.50 to get home, single to New Mills Central and got a lift from there back.
£20 to replace my provisional licence - only my 3rd one!

That'll teach me for skipping a few sessions off Uni :|, I'd saved £72 not going in 5 times over the last few weeks, only 1 a genuine absence! Still, stuff happens :/ haha

Glad you got home OK.

Hope the wallet turns up, I guess there is still a slim chance if it had ID in it. I was wondering what I would do if I'd found it... and I don't mean "spend all the cash" :)

I suppose if it was on the train, I'd find the guard.
On a platform, I'd try the ticket office.
On the street, I'd try the police?

If you found it on the street and it contained bank cards, you could take it to the nearest branch of that Bank. They would be sure to contact the owner and insist on satisfactory identification before returning their card to its user.

If I found a wallet with cards in I would pass it in to the local police station or one of the banks that the cards were from. that way its sure to get back to the true owner.
