Diesel Running Dates in February

Hello

As i cant seem to find anything listed on the web & as im keen to fill my Feb calendar up, may i kindly ask if anyone is aware of any Diesel running dates in February? more specifically either on the Churnet Valley or Peak Rail? (as i have't visited either in ages)

There's a diesel mixed traffic event at the Mid Norfolk Railway in mid Feb. http://www.railwaystoday.com/enthusiasts-diary/heritage-diesel-events-2012/

I'm not sure about other diesel running days outside of this though.

The Great Central have a shunter gala (unfortunately the same weekend as the Mid Norfolk) - D2158, D3101 and D4067 should be running. Not sure if there's a visiting loco this time. Last year 08629 attracted a lot of 'red pen' men.

Thanks for the info, yes the Mid Norfolk event is tempting. At £24 return (2 singles advance) its not a bad price from Derby either. Seems that the Diesel running dates are a bit sparse at this time? With the cold weather i'd of thought it would be an ideal month to crank up the engines. But what do i know

Many preserved railways put their diesel fleet into 'hibernation' over winter (ie drain the coolant, engine oil etc) to protect against frost damage. Locos which are used over winter are usually started up every few days. Hopefully this explains why there aren't many diesel running days this time of year.

Ah, i see. Thanks for that probably half of this forum is laughing at my lack of wisdom right now Took a trip to the GCR Diesel weekend (14th/15th Jan) their 101 was cleary unhappy about being woken so early on the morning trip (one coach had no heat but running engine & the other had heat but an engine that kept cutting out - bless)

Only a limited number of locos capable of heating trains too, which is unacceptable for joe public (who make up 90% of visitors to preserved railways) at this time of year.
