Tring to Boundary Zone 6 - what ticket?

Following on from that very long thread about what is and isn't WCML! Can I buy from Tring to Hatch End and combine with a zones 1-6 travelcard on a non stop train or do I need to buy to Harrow and Wealdstone?

You can buy Tring to Hatch End, or Boundary Zone 6, and combine with a zone 1-6 Travelcard. A ticket to Hatch End can be combined with a weekly or longer Travelcard, and a ticket to Boundary Zone 6 can be combined with any Travelcard. No need to buy to Harrow & Wldstne.

It is only a one day travelcard. You can't buy to a boundary anyway can you? The ticket office will be closed anyway so it needs to be something from a machine.

You can buy to a boundary, but only at a booking office, not online. You can buy it the previous day (any previous day).

You won't be able to get a Z1-6 day travelcard from a TVM outside the zones.

If the ticket you require (the boundary zone fare is required for a non-stop train) is not available you should buy a ticket covering part of your journey and exchange it at the first opportunity. In this case I'd expect that buying to Hatch End would make sense.

I usually buy a 16-25 travel card at Chalk Farm but use it on the bus to Swiss Cottage. From there I buy a Boundary 6 - Aylesbury and travel via Harrow on the hill. On the way home though I can get a lift to Tring which is far quicker. So I just need to know if I can buy to Hatch End or need to Harrow & Wealdstone to then complete my journey back to Chalk Farm on my travel card.

The ticket office at Tring isn't open so has to be something from the machine.

The train does stop at Harrow and Wealdstone. It's only about a quid difference so I don't mind really, just out of interest!

The appropriate ticket would be a single to Boundary Zone 6. Somebody else will be able to confirm the price. If the booking office is closed and the TVM can't issue a ticket to Boundary Zone 6, you should pay for a ticket from the TVM with a value as close to the BZ6 ticket as possible (preferably in the right direction). Then excess the ticket at the first opportunity (this may be on the train or at your destination station).

Tring to Boundary Zone 6: SDS £9.60 SDR £15 CDS £8.30 CDR £8.40 FDS £11.20 FDR £22.40. CDR restriction C4, southbound by any train timed to arrive London Terminals or Kensington Olympia at or after 10am, northbound by any train.
