I have a pair of tickets from London to Leeds, out Friday 24 Feb and back Sun 26 Feb. I bought them as part of EC's £10 singles offer but now cannot travel on that day. Is there a way of getting a refund for them?

Unfortunately not. You cannot get a refund on Advance tickets. Normally you can change them but (a) there's a £10 admin fee which would wipe out the value and (b) I think the EC £10 special offer tickets come with a no changes rule.

As is often the case the ticket type is not mentioned, so we have to make an educated guess.

These may be Advance tickets - the T&Cs are very clear, " Your ticket is non-refundable." although you can get them changed subject to availability and a £10 admin fee.

However they are likely to be Reader Offer tickets, in which case the terms you will have agreed to clearly state " Once a booking is made, no refunds or changes will be allowed. There are no child, Railcard or other promotional discounts available with this offer. Under 5s travel free if they do not occupy a seat."

Officially, all tickets are non-transferable under NRCoC 6

Although unofficially, no TOC would come chasing after you if you gave your ticket to a friend or family member. They would if you sold (or tried to sell) it to some guy on the street, however!

Thanks, I knew they were officially unrefundable but wondered if there was a sneaky way of doing it. Never mind.
