Going to France for a week by EC.Eurostar and TGV on Sunday 8th April. I've got all the trains booked at excellent prices for the whole journey, except Edinburgh-London on the 8th April. The EC site has only released Advance tickets up to the 4th April. Anyone know when they're likely to have Advance tickets on the go? I know it's Easter Weekend, but will that affect the number/price of Advances available?

Thanks in advance for any advice. Always enjoy reading this forum, but this is the first time I've actually asked a question!

They should go on sale Thursday morning, however this will depend on Network Rail confirming if there is any engineering works that weekend. Im not an expert but i reckon if you are travelling on the saturday or sunday you should get a good price as the most demand will be for good friday and easter monday, but again that may depend on there being no track works going on them days.

I agree. I'd also advise booking them as soon as possible on Thursday, as the very lowest tier of ticket prices can sell quickly, especially on trains at the most popular times of day.

Does the fact that the trains are already showing up on the planner (despite the advances not having been released) mean that there won't be engineering works that weekend?

Unfortunately there are still no advances available beyond April 4th. As of now I have booked with, and received tickets from Eurostar, SNCF and DB covering this trip. It's only EC leaving a gap.

All too typical, I fear. After all, Easter is a holiday in France and Germany too isn't it? SNCF and DB also carry out engineering works, don't they?

Anyone got any info on how long this is likely to go on. After all Easyjet are doing Edinburgh-London for £25 on Easter Sunday, but I'm trying to demonstrate to my partner the superiority of rail travel for European holidays!

Typical of what?

Tickets are now available up to the 13th of April.
