Best time to book Advance tickets

Unfortunately, being unemployed, Advance bargain fares are my only option for my 2-3 times per year long distance treats. Advance fares are bookable up to 12 weeks in advance, so I understand, but if I go to the NR website and check the fares for the 12th week, there are barely any reductions at all. I have to go back to the 9th or 10th week to find real bargains. This seems a little odd to me as I logically assumed that the further in advance you booked, the cheaper the fare would be.

Check http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/booking_horizons.html to see how far in advance the cheap fares are available. Many lines have not yet released anything in April at weekends, probably because of uncertainty over Easter engineering works.

It worth doing a daily check around the 12 Week period.

I've been after an Advance Ticket form Virgin for good Friday , National Rail Hoirzons , is showing up to 5th April . I wanted the 6th Good Friday and they came available from Friday 13th.
