Longcross on the Waterloo-Reading line. In fact its closed Sat/Sun and only operates at rush hour with 1 train an hour.

I was going to say Manchester United FC station, but then it would be open on a Sunday if there was a game.

FGW Greenford Branch has never had any Sunday trains, well unless you count the Virgin Blockbuster trains and WSMR/FGW diversions that have taken place recently. Deserves something hourly on a Sunday, especially considering it connects with the Central Line.

Cooksbridge, Pevensey Bay and Normans Bay railway stations on the East Coastway Line (Sussex) don't have a Sunday service.

Faygate railway station on the Arun Valley line doesn't either.

Angel Road on the Lea Valley line has no service on Saturday or Sunday. I did read somewhere that there were plans to introduce a service (maybe the Stratford - Bishops Stortford stoppers) as the station is close to Lea Valley Tesco and Edmonton IKEA - not sure how many people would want to lug a Billy Bookcase on a train though.

Problem with Angel Road station is that since it (and the North Circular Road outside) was rebuilt the entrance to the station is at the wrong end of the platform, and entirely inconvenient - ludicrous, given that those big stores just opposite the former entrance to the station have opened since the station changed (and the service to it was severely reduced.)

It's interesting to note that on the London Underground, I think there are now *no* stations closed on Sundays as a matter of course. (Cannon Street maybe? The opening hours of that one seem to change frequently. But with the special exceptions of the Kensington Olympia to Earls Court shuttle and the Waterloo and City line I think everything on the tube is now a seven-day operation.)

Not that long ago....stations closed on Sundays included Temple, Chancery Lane (i think these were the most recent still to close on Sunday - into the 2000s), Ravenscourt Park, Barbican, Covent Garden (unthinkable now...)

and those closed on Saturdays and Sundays included West Brompton, Fairlop, Roding Valley

More NR/BR stations in London were closed on Sundays too - off the top of my head, Brondesbury Park, Canonbury, South Acton, I think Finchley Road and Frognal, Dagenham Dock, Rainham, Purfleet (and the direct Barking to Grays service), Limehouse (when it was Stepney East pre-DLR)

It makes the continuing Sunday closure of the Finsbury Park - Moorgate line look all the more odd - not least given how the area around Old Street has changed almost beyond recognition in the last 20 years.

I think the idea was to have a 'new' entrance to Angel Road to be more convenient.

Canon Street Underground station used to be closed on Saturdays and Sundays. I like to think I was responsible for the Saturday opeing (at least)as I emailed TfL to ask why it didn't open on a Saturday to connect with the Saturday service that had been introduced to the national rail station above and the reply was "we weren't aware that a Saturday service had been introduced at Canon Street national rail station". Six months later, the underground station was opening on a Saturday! Probably been planned for years but I prefer to big up my influence.

Cannon street closed every Sunday as per schedules and will remain so. Also closed every Saturday short-term due to renovation work. Scheduled to close after 1900 Saturdays and B/H usually, and after 2100 weekdays. Also no W&C Sundays B/H's and after about 1900 Saturdays also. I think all other LT stations open at all times (except heathrow T4 late night arrangements)

In fairness, the railways do seem to be making a bit more of an effort in this respect. I can remember a time not so long ago when the Central Wales and Cambrian Coast services had nothing on Sunday, not even in summer.

thanks to County Councils who funded them, All brought back before ATW,

The Walsall-Wolverhampton line has to Sunday service.

Well it only has one train in one direction Monday-Friday. All journeys are via Birmingham New Street but on Sundays you have to change there too.

Romford - Upminster

The reason was always because the main users of the line, commuters & shoppers didn't travel on Sundays.
Now the shops are open there is more of a case for it running, but usage would be unlikely to justify it.

However I think it should run on Sundays if there is engineering work on C2C or NXEA between Upminster / Romford & London, as it would be a useful alternative route.
I think it may have run a few months ago on a Sunday when there were no trains west of Romford, but I'm not sure about that.

Acle & Lingwood where only ever opened on Sundays from May to September from as far back as the 1960s. With the new franxhise in 2004 i& the early days of NXEA, loco-hauled services to/from Gt.Yarmouth became a daily occurance. Whilst very welcome these trains where in marginal time for the Intercity sets & very lightly loaded. A deal was struck between them & DfT to introduce an hourly & much needed all year service from Yarmouth to Norwich with every other service operating via Acle & giving a tear round service. This actually made a lot of sense & is well used now.

Anderston's already been mentioned. Dalmarnock still has no Sunday service either, unless I'm much mistaken...

Correct, although it may change after the 2014 Commonwealth Games when the village becomes a residential area.

Other routes not yet mentioned;

Glasgow Central to Whifflet

Springburn branch stations (although Springburn itself is served by trains from Queen Street High Level).

Yes, it's run on a Sunday (but without stopping at Emerson Park) when there have been engineering works on one or other (or both) of the main lines several times now. The bus services between Upminster (and Hornchuch/Emerson Park) and Romford are so frequent (if slower than the train) that I can't imagine there's that much demand that would warrant running it on a Sunday

Taplow between Slough and Maidenhead has no Sunday service, although that may change for the 2012 games.

Could do with Network Rail having no engineering work planned during the games period. Taplow has no Sunday service due to the two-track railway that is planned for use between Reading and London on a Sunday. Network Rail plan that either the main or relief lines will be closed and since Taplow has no main line platforms they can't guarantee trains will be able to stop there.

Newquay to Par doesnt have sunday service. I lived there for 3 years and could never leave on a sunday, was annoying to say the least!

Sunday service started last month.Only 3 trains each way but better than nothing, although I am not sure the demand in Winter will be very high. First trip on a weekday cut as a result!

British Rail started the Sunday Service earlier one year, and when they realized there would be little traffic they advertised cheap Sunday fares. The trains were packed! Most were going Par to Newquay for the afternoon. There is a huge population in this area. Newquay's sea & coast is spectacular at that time of the year. No tourists & the best time to visit!! :D

Really? Taplow does have 4 platforms (though 2 are not used). The next station on, Burnham, only has 2 physical platforms (on the same lines as the ones used at Taplow) but does have a Sunday service (hourly in the morning, becoming 2 tph early afternoon though the number of trains passing does not increase).

Burnham's overnight and Sunday trains are quite often replaced by buses, if you look at FGW engineering updates on their website it's one of the most common alterations. It would be the same at Taplow if it had a Sunday service.

First weekday trip cut more because the unit is needed to run the new 0628 Exeter St Davids-Par, loadings on the early morning Newquay service were never that great anyway.

I know - Taplow was my local station for a little over 3 years being 20 minutes' walk away (with Burnham 40 minutes' walk away) - and most evenings the buses served both on Slough - Maidenhead trips. Was most annoying on a Sunday as the buses almost pass Taplow station (and some actually passed it, depending on which driver it was) whilst on many Sundays the trains ran straight through the platforms.

The extra time for the replacement buses to actually stop at Taplow must be minimal.

The earlier service was only recently reinstated. I takes time for passenger numbers to build. Without the earlier service it rules out commuting by train.
The earliest you can now get to Plymouth is Midday, which is a bit late for a day out/ shopping etc.
Summer Saturdays saw a hive of activity on the branch line, but after closing the passing loop at St Dennis junction, AND closure of Newquay signal box, which on it's own would not have been a problem - they could have left a ground frame, the token instrument, and the 3 platforms. It is now impossible to run a decent service.

Can understand the Greenford branch as its generally empty past West Ealing off peak, however Heathrow Connect should still serve Hanwell and West Ealing and possibly stop additionally at Acton Mainline.

I believe its to do with Network Rail planning a lot of engineering works for sundays which is likely to increase with the crossrail works, making the line effectively a two track railway and so trains do not stop on sundays for fear of delaying the longer distance services.

Heathrow Connect for example only runs hourly during the winter for this reason
