Pendolino 390055 To Enter Service

Taking two cars out is completely bafing tome. The two cars will now be ut of sync with the rest of the unit maintenance wise!

The two pairs of cars taken out of 54 and 55 may not necessarily be replaced in those units - they may be fitted in the first of the existing trains to be extended.

Just read the Feb edition of Today's Railways UK, or that possibility wouldn't have occured to me either.

Saw this today operating the 13:15 Manchester Picc - London Euston.

390054 is like that too.

Have they added the Virgin Logo + Shield onto it or does it still have the Alstom Logo?

390054 still has the Alstom logo and branding. No Virgin branding on it when I saw it yesterday

Just seen an Alstom Branded 390 on the 2221 Lancaster to Crewe.

Does anyone know if this was 55?

would make sense if its done the diagram above. 1 things for sure it is welcome on the 10:51 EDB BHM which has been a dubble voyager but on more than 1 occasion the 2nd set has for whatever reason been detached at EDB and formed the 12:52 or run X to Pulmadie and not uncommon also for a set to detatch at Preston. Iether way your left with madness as that service is always well loaded.

I heard an interesting rumour today; supposedly the reason for these dedicated diagrams for 054 and 055 is that these two are not allowed to pass each other at speed in Kilsby tunnel as they apparently generate a lot more turbulence than the older 390s do!

But I thought they were physically identical, so I cannot work out why this should be the case unless they have a few extra external bits and pieces fitted somewhere?

odd. This is surely going to cause headakes when 56 and 57 arive but also if the new additional coaches are like this also?

Exactly what I thought.

There must be a reason why they have given them those specific diagrams instead of just letting them loose in the general fleet, though? Come to think of it, 054 was in the general fleet until 055 entered service wasn't it? So the reason can't be to do with getting them back to a specific location each night.

Not sure how you could stop that if things went pear shaped, the signallers wouldn't know the diagrams so therefore couldn't hold one back.

It can't be that as they are currently running 054 and 055 as 9 car sets.
