This misreporting issue presumably explains why Wirral Line services which run from Chester to Chester etc are always reported on LDB twice. Usually they are both coming and going from one of the intermediate stations simultaneously.

This has been the case for several years (ever since I have looked up train times on LDB) so probably this issue has been around a long time just needing the correct circumstances to appear.

You can do this on TRUST. An enquiry for headcode (Train Reporting Number) will return all trains scheduled to run with that Reporting Number, and you can select the one you want. Ralph's information shows this. This shows that LDB is using TRUST for it's running information but cannot differentiate between different trains running with the same reporting number in different regions at around the same times.

Am I able to access TRUST or is it only for railway staff? If so is there a link?

Shame. I like headcodes, I find them interesting. I don't know why there's a lot of security issues regarding them, I stumbled across somewhere and they said that 'headcodes are strictly not to be published for security reasons'. ??

Given that headcodes (well, actually train identities - headcodes are something different nowadays) are publicly available in data from both ATOC and Network Rail...that's a load of rubbish.

I've put them up on Location Search on my http://traintimes.im site, as well as being able to search directly by them through http://traintimes.im/advanced/ now.

Headcodes are fine. It's just that TRUST also contains location reporting, delay administration. All off a legacy IBM mainframe. It simply isn't feasible to make it publically available. ATOC do publish the timetable CIF files though.

Yes it is, and the real time data from it will be later this year. ATOC only recently published the CIF files for passenger services - they've been available from Network Rail for a while, now.
