Recorded it but ended up watching it at the same time. Liked it for the trains side of things for sure, also liked the bit on Reedham Swing Bridge and the bit on Bradshawing in the air.

Shall have to set it to record tomorrow, as I'll almost certainly be out.

Michael Portillo is on with Radio 2's Steve Wright this afternoon talking about the series.

Jolly good, my eyes are on BBC's iPlayer (I don't have a TV license as most of it is complete rubbish these days).

In the title shots where is the station where Michael Portillo boards the pacer, with a signal number UT219?

Very good start to the series. I didn't spot as many continuity errors either.

Possibly not as many as before though we did have a 156 go to an overhead of a top and tailed loco hauled and then 156 to getting off a HST. Didn't spot anything else quite so glaring in the past couple of days though

Michael cabbed 70007! He's VERY Lucky!!

I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking that!
Darting along that single track line at a fair speed looked great!

Oh dear, what's Michael done to deserve that?

How did I know you'd say that? ;)

That's a clip from the first series in 2010. For some reason it is actually a mirror image, and I have no idea why they flipped it, but they obviously decided to change the signal number else it would be even more noticeable. You can tell though as 'First Great Western' on the 142 as well as the 'Do not cross the line' signs are both back-to-front.

What was the story behind the DRS duffs and what looks like two Mk2s and a DVT in Episode 1?

I thought the series had crawled onto its deathbed a while ago. I much prefer 'Railway Walks' the presenter is much easier on the eyes and its not full of cringy snobbery.

I remember reading a while ago their response to the train continuity problem. I don't remember the details but it boiled down to it just wasn't practical to film the same train that Michael is actually on all the time.

Like what?

It's more the cringeworthy jokes that are annoying :P

After baking bread/tasting a fresh loaf..."I kneaded (needed) that"...*groan* :P

I would rather have cringe-worthy jokes, rather than see Julia Bradbury trying to pretend that she walks muddy old railway paths in boots that never get dirty or she never gets out of breath; and heaven knows what the reason was for her finishing some walks in different clothes to when she started.

But then, she has recently had a baby......

of course you will still need a tv licence, to view on a computer-surley!

Only if you're watching it live to speak. Once it's been broadcast you no longer need one

@Wintonian, what app do you use to post here from the Droid?
