It might be useful for me as well to know.

The game is that you have to find the fastest way from west/east end of London to opposite ends, using only public transport you have got with some restrictions imposed. You will have to provide the full details of routing, and you will also have to provide how long it takes to do the journey.

There is no restrictions on funding whatsoever (Imagine that you're using unlimited oyster card), you cannot use HS1/Javelin train from Stratford international to Pancras, and you cannot use any airport express trains, including the Heathrow express except Heathrow connect.

By West end and East end of London, I mean Southall and Ilford.

Now, start thinking!

If you have too much free time, you could add two journeys, one without Heathrow Connect, and one without Heathrow Connect AND NR.

Southall to Paddington is 18 minutes off peak.
Paddington to Liverpool Street is 23 minutes on the tube supposing you get straight on a train.
Liverpool Street to Ilford is 16 minutes off peak.

I can't realistically see you getting that under 1 hour 15 without teleportation, so yeah, what EM2 said.

18 minutes from Southall to Paddington on First Great Western (or Heathrow Connect-Oyster/Travelcards ARE valid on this service between Hayes & Harlington and Paddington)
8 minutes from Paddington to Oxford Circus
20 minutes from Oxford Circus to Stratford
9 minutes from Stratford to Ilford

That's pretty good, less than 1 hour. Now I can't see why crossrail would be good idea to build if the possible crossrail of 42 minutes is only 13 minutes quicker than the existing route.

Well, connection times is non-existent in peak periods and it is even almost non-existent in off-peak periods as well because it's in London. But then I don't live in London, but that's how I view London's transport network - always frequent.

Frequent, but not instant.
Probably the quickest interchange there is at Stratford, because it's a cross-platform change. If you're lucky, the tube arrives just before the Ilford service. If not, it's a ten-minute wait...

Two minutes from arriving at PAD to Bakerloo platforms.
Five minute wait for a train.
Three minutes to Central Line platforms at Oxford Circus
Five minute wait at Oxford Circus for Central line
Ten minute wait at Stratford.
That's twenty-five minutes added.
