Has been reported locally that 2x FEA's on 4L02 are off the road at Felixstowe South. Tonights liners are cancelled and inbounds are being held at various points. Info from Anglia Gen.

Quite a bit of disruption to the Scud shuttle too due to severe freight congestion.

Roughly translated, it means a freight train has derailed at Felixstowe South, causing a serious backlog of freight servies in the area. ;)

Just like Xmas Eve 1982 when a collision between 2 Freightliners was "managed" in the Creek Sidings .......low speed , but a fair amount of damage done. Rerailed and recovered on Boxing Day.

All resolved by 0500 this morning, including installing a new set of switches, cracking effort.

Investigation is still under way but the likely cause points towards the track spreading or dipping under the train.

If that turns out to be the case any compensation or costs will be claimed back from Network Rail as it was on their infrastructure and thus responsibility falls with them.

4L02 is the basic train reporting code used to ID the train. In this case it's a class 4 that is timed to run at between 65 and 75mph, is coded "L" which means its inter regional destined for the Anglia zone and has "02" as it's unique number.

Class 4 are always timed at 75mph or whatever the prevailing linespeed is if below 75mph.

Also "earth fault" seems to be flavour of the month.
Is that earth fault in its correct electrical sense, or 'earth fault' in a colloquial sense to describe a derailment?! Driver to signalman: "Bit of a problem guv, faulty points and my loco is on the earth"
