I've used their seat selector a few times before and every time it's worked fine. I've tried using it now on both Chrome and Internet Explorer and the large box where the trains and seats are usually displayed is just empty.

All I can think of is that I was notified and updated to a new version of Flash earlier today. Could that be causing it? Any chance anyone else could try and see if they can get onto the seat selector on the Cross Country website and maybe state their version of flash?

I have version 11.1.102.55 apparently. Frustrating!

Edit: Just to note if this is if any use to anyone, if I right click anywhere on the empty space where the seat selector should be it just says "Movie not loaded..." and then below that "About Adobe Player..."

This happens to me every single time as well. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

Does anyone know of a fix for this? I'm using a Mac, with the latest Flash, and I've tried both Safari and Firefox to no avail.

I just uninstalled Flash in the hope of installing an older version (this would only work in IE, as I believe Chrome automatically has the latest Flash installed and you can't uninstall it), but upon installation the installer gives me the error "There is a new version of Flash Player available, please download it from here."

So it looks like I'm stuck with the latest, incompatible, version of Flash. If anyone else can confirm that it doesn't work on their computer, and they also have the latest Flash Player, any idea who the best person would be to inform XC that their website isn't working properly?

I really want to use this seat selection tool before tomorrow night (it's a busy train, I want to split my off peak returns to make substantial savings, but I'll have a lot of luggage so I want to ensure that I can stay in the same seat the whole time!

Even though there hasn't been much response to this thread, I'll keep you up to date anyway. Send off an online support ticket via their website last night, and I got this response:

Thank you for your email.

We regret the inconvenience caused to you while booking the tickets online.

As of now we are facing a technical issue. Hence, you will be unable to choose a seat from the seating plan.

If you require a specific type or location of seats or you wish to reserve seats that are together, then we would suggest that these bookings be made via our Telesales team who will be in a position to handle special requests better.

I would request you to call our Telesales team on 0844 811 0124 (Monday - Sunday 08:00 to 22:00) who may be able to assist you in reserving your preferred seats for your journey. However the seats are subject to availability.

If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.

I just ended up using the EC website instead and getting allocated three different seats for each of the three split tickets (I tried multiple times in the hope that it would give me the same seat each time but I think that was too much to hope for!) rather than spend money on a phone call to their telesales department.

So it does seem that there is an issue with the website, and if they weren't aware of it before I emailed I guess they are now. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

rather than spend money on a phone call to their telesales department.

If you have inclusive minutes to landlines on a mobile or free 01/02 calls on your landline then you can avoid the 0844 number and it's costs by dialing 0121 200 6450 for CrossCountry.

Most TOCs have an alternative 01/02 number....

I guess I could have done that. But I also didn't really want the hassle of explaining that I wanted not only to split one journey up into four parts, but that I also required the same seat for three of the parts. I just accepted defeat and bought them quickly by myself online.

That's fair enough. Telesales may equally have been unable to meet your request. Sometimes the systems to hand are not robust enough for our more esoteric ticketing needs. :D There's always the station....... ;)

In your situation, I'd probably prefer to move seats a couple of times if that was the price to be (not) paid by saving money with split tickets.
