Crewe / Chester to London

Chaps,

I'm planning to travel from Chester or Crewe to London on 29th December at around 7am. Can I check that if I just turn up this will be an OFF PEAK fare - the Virgin Trains website is implying that it is - but I thought I should check.

So in other words, are the expensive tickets dropped for this period.

Well December 29 is an ordinary weekday, so there will be peak restrictions, but perhaps they don't apply to the ticket you want.

When you travel to London on the 29th December there will be No Peak Restrictions over the Xmas Period.

This applies from. 12:00pm 23rd Dec to Monday 2nd January inclusive.

So yes Virgin's Website is correct.

You will be able to use a Off Peak ticket around 7am.

Well I did say "most."

I'm not sure if it applies to "regional" TOC's, but it definitely applies to East Coast (and TPE, I think - but don't quote me on that one as I can't check right now).

and in their Christmas leaflet they have specifically said "normal Monday to Friday restrictions apply throughout the South West Trains network to all Off-peak and Super Off-peak tickets"

Making it look like there the only or one of the only TOC's that don't relax the restrictions and that they have absolutely no intention of considering doing so.

Your right they haven't, but this leaflet shows that they think that at least some passengers have come to expect it over Christmas.
