Hi, as many of you know Blackfriars opened its Bankside Entrance this morning. The SE1 Website has posted a few pictures of the new entrance: http://www.london-se1.co.uk/news/view/5705

Thought it may be of interest to some people. I don't think it has been particularly well advertised though as a colleague of mine was a bit annoyed to find out that his normal 20minute walk from Blackfriars could have been cut to 5 this morning if he had used the new exit!

He must have been half asleep to miss the signs, and the announcement running on a loop. I forget exactly what it was, but it ran along the lines of "Welcome to London Blackfriars. Please note that we now have a new exit to the south side of the river"

I like the look of the station name and BR symbol in the first picture.

The various images that had been online for a while, (eg on the Thameslink Programme website), made it look like an LU entrance, with the narrow dark blue fascia - obviously some duff gen had been given to the people doing the 'artists impressions', like this for example: http://www.thameslinkprogramme.co.uk/cms/pages/view/66

I see the underground station is now delayed until the end of February - that's quite a slippage so I wonder what has been the major cause?

Interestingly the sign behind the worthies pointing out the two exits, the north exit is designated for the City and St Pauls!!!

Does this mean they will be closing City Thameslink or are they expecting passengers to walk to City Thameslink station to get out? :)

Short answer: No

Slightly longer answer: No, doon't be daft

Even Longer answer: No, they're just sensible landmarks to be pointing to. After all, the north end of the bridge is in "The City". Presumably this is the wording they intend on using after the new bays are open too. I would reckon, once the bays are open, that for the majority if you arrive on a train terminating n the bays that it'll be quicker to walk to St Pals than get the next through train to City and walk.

The only "close City" situation I can envisage is if they decide to close it at weekends- in which case Blackfriars would be the closest TL station to St Pauls.

Does anyone know when late night/weekend services are going to be restored to the Wimbledon/Sutton loop?

I think I read that May 2012 should be the the end of the routine weekend closures.

Of Course not I was only joking

Yes it is in the City but as these are posters on temporary hoardings, makes you wonder what goes through the heads of the planners - DafT
