Emergency engineering work is usually, in my experience, something like a broken rail or damaged bridge/tunnel/track bed. If it was a fatality, it would be referred to as "a fatality", "a person struck by a train," or, very rarely, "Police activity on the line" or "a customer incident."

It all kicked off with the discovery of a cracked crossing nose in the main to main crossover at Tallington. This closed the Down Fast while emergency repairs were caried out.
This left the Down Slow available for all Northbound trains and when a freight train was routed that way, it broke down at Little Bytham, the upshot of which was a quantity of trains trapped behind it.

It was GBs 6E33 Felixstowe-Donny railport that failed at Little Bytham, i was stuck for over two hours behind it with 4E24 F/L service to Leeds.
