1. How to play

At the start of a game, the OP(at the very beginning or if necessary) or the player who previously ended a leg of the journey, will choose a starting station (unless the player has called an “open floor”, in which any player can choose a starting station) that adheres to the following criteria:

 It is on NR rails (or Merseyrail)
 It has a through line
 It is not the same station as the one which ended the previous leg.

The leg that started with posting # 5730 is also invalid as Wargrave is also on a short branch line with a terminal station.

Thought "through line" merely meant that the station had trains running in from each end of the platforms (i.e. not somewhere like Helensburgh Central, or Brighton, or London Euston). Otherwise you're opening a can of worms as we then have to ask how long the line running through the station must be before reaching a terminal station before being valid.

We've had a whole load of similar starting points all the way through the game... Cardross being another recent example (although that leg was ruled out for reasons unrelated to this particular issue)

Many thanks for this clarification Paul, of course, this now raises the question of what to do with this leg, and the other leg(s) where this has happened..

One for adtrainz to make a ruling upon, but Rule 1 has always stated what it says since this quiz first commenced.

We've also had legs starting at Scotscalder and Thorpe Bay, just off the top of my head... surely they would also be ruled out if this was our definition of "through line"...

I personally agree with Robinson's definiton of a through line. If this wasn't the case, then most stations in areas like Merseyside, Greater Manchester (South), West Yorkshire, Central Scotland, and Greater London (and many more) being barred as starting stations.
