What is the intention with this ticket?

Is that the passenger would go from Earls Court to Paddington

Or for the Passenger to go straight from Earls Court to Ealing Broadway?

Or could you go via Shepherd's Bush on the Central line?

Bearing in mind it is about a 1/3 cheaper than a route; +any permitted

It doesn't have a + so how are you supposed to use LU with it?

BHM - Zones 1245 route via Northolt doesn't have a + preceding it, and obviously it is still valid via LU. Is this a formal rule saying no + means no LU validity?

(Obviously excepting dual availability i.e. Kings Cross - Finsbury Park)

Interesting find; I guess the intention is that you avoid Zone 1 and so it's cheaper.

Loads of tickets are valid on LU and don't have a cross on them. If it's indicated by the routeing or origin/destination (e.g. ZONE UXXX) then it isn't necessary.

It isn't a formal rule, common sense should apply if a ticket has a route like Northolt, Ealing Common/North Acton etc. On the other side of London however, tickets for intended for use on the East London Line or DLR are marked +Not London. This applies for travel between two stations within London, origin east of Stratford and destinations in South London to the east of Wimbledon and vice versa. There's probably a reason why it isn't the same for the other side of London.

I wonder if for ticketing purposes, the LU and the NR stations are one and the same? In theory I don't see why a Romford - Streatham Hill ticket routed +Not London shouldn't be valid via a change on the Underground at London Bridge and Balham.

Having e-mailed ATOC regarding a similar matter (namely tickets from London Terminals to Underground zonal destinations not featuring the "Maltese Cross") they reminded me that its presence (as stated on the back of tickets) indicates that a ticket is valid for cross-London transfer by London Underground/DLR at a limited number of stations, NOT of general LU/DLR validity.

Maltese Cross means cross-London transfer.

The ticket in the title is bizarre. Which TOC prices it please? I'd be also interested to know whether it started around the time that Shepherds Bush overground opened or earlier.

Assuming the intention isn't to restrict your journey to the two SWT journeys a day that pass through Wimbledon Park, then you would use the district line. As earls court is in zone 1 or 2, then you could change there (for district to ealing broadway) or instead change west brompton and again at Shepherds bush.

If I was going to price a journey from Woking to Ealing Broadway by a cheaper route, I would go for woking (then either via Chertsey or via Strawberry Hill), richmond, Acton (short walk) then FGW to Ealing Broadway - but that's just me. I would expect Earls Court to be quicker.

If you have the time or patience, I would email whichever TOC prices this ticket and ask for written confirmation of the routes you may take. Depending what they say, you may also like to ask LU whether their on-train revenue protection are aware of the ticket and the validity that the TOC say it has.

Please keep us updated re this bizarre ticket!

Priced by South West Trains. Appears with the same route at least as far back as NFM03 (May 2009).

At a guess, it's probably that route, rather than an LU one, because SWT run those occasional services via Wimbledon Park.

One down and three up, all between midnight and 5am http://www.avoe05.dsl.pipex.com/2011.htm .... And where does one go at Clapham? LO to shepherds bush, or stick on NR totally and change Willesden and again Acton?

Is the ticket off peak (if so the only up working is peak)?

The intention appears to be that the "via Wimbledon Park" ticket is if you intend to change onto the District Line at Wimbledon. Changing elsewhere, you need the Any Permitted one.

Is the ticket off peak (if so the only up working is peak)?

Available tickets are First Class/Standard Anytime Day Singles and Returns, and an Off-Peak (after 09:30) Day Return.

The Any Permitted route adds a First Class Off-Peak Day Return and a Super Off-Peak Day Return.

Cheers,

Barry
