Blindtraveler the new hot dishes on the all day menu will be jacket spuds with the following fillings for each rotation:
leeks and cheese sauce (1)
beef chilli (2)
chicken tikka (3)
ratatouilee (4)
the other hot options
chicken and mushroom pie and chips (1)
brie and cranberry wellington (2)
vegy sheppards pie (3)
fish pie and chips (4)
The sarni's will have new fillings too and the cakes will be new flavours.
The breakfast doesnt change much other than the yogurt and fruit plate are going but porridge will be on every week and the smoked salmon will be every 2 weeks instead of 4 as will be the scram egg and mushrooms.
The evening meals will be the all day options as well as the following:
1.
Roast beef and yorkshire puds with potato gratin, red cabbage and beetroot
2.
Chicken breast with tomato and veg sauce, fennel, sauteed pots and broccoli
3.
Salmon fillet with creamy sliced pots, carrots in orange sauce and leeks in cheese sauce.
4.
Roast pork and savoy cabbage with mexican pots and mashed carrot and parsnip.
The dessets have a refresh too.

Looking forward to trying it, now I have another 500 reward points from travelling in the cheap seats. Let's hope EC/RG can deliver that menu consistently, not just the 17:30 out of KGX. I mean the sadly neglected 19:07 to Lincoln
That sounds a lot better, in fact those all sound quite appetising.

Here's a couple of thoughts:
1) Why can't they just do basic straightforward 'stodgy' (almost!) food, like lasagna, pie and chips or salad, why do they have to be so creative / imaginative with the evening meals? Just stick to basics and it will be a lot easier!
2) Keep a check on this page http://www.eastcoast.co.uk/travel-information/download-full-time-tables-to-your-desktop/ for the new timetable (they are the last non-OAO / PTE TOC to release it this year) to see if any designations (i.e. meal trains) have changed.

will be interesting to see the feedback. If baked potatoes are a success then they may stay next change, perhaps with seasonal fillings? As for the rest I see a meat option is now more comon iether with the tatty or the other choice and there does seam like theres something for everyone!!

It's odd that they haven't released it on the web. I picked up a printed copy of the 11 December 2011 - 24 June 2012 East Coast timetable from Newcastle Central station on 19 October, complete with coloured shading indicating complimentary service level. In summary, Monday - Friday
- most of the Leeds <-> London trains I use have journey times extended by 1 or 2 minutes
- Kings X 0701 arrival offers nothing
- Kings X departures until 0903 and arrivals 0733-1102 offer breakfast
- Kings X departures 0908-1035 (except 1000, 1030) and arrivals 1129-1254 have mid-morning offer
- Kings X departures 1700, 1730 and 1800-1903 offer Evening Meal
- All other trains have the All-day offer.

back to the present, anybody on here tried the new offerings yet? I wonder how there going down! Could sure have used a pie and chips at lunch today!
They don't come online until the new timetable next month do they?

No, the new menu started on Monday 21 November.
As it happened, attendance at a funeral in Edinburgh gave me the opportunity to sample the revised menu on the first day of operation. I'll start with 2 items of praise:
- The chicken and mushroom pie & chips were much more substantial than any previous item from the All-Day Offer, and only needed some veg to become the main course of a meal.
- Both crews were good. For the Edinburgh - Newcastle section, the cook came to speak to all 31 passengers and sought specific feedback on the quality of the baked potatoes, which he was cooking for the first time on this equipment. The replacement crew south of Newcastle coped well with more than double the expected number of passengers (over 80 due to cancellation of the 1904 from Newcastle) and ensured all had been served both drink and food by the time I left the train at York.
The booklet has shrunk from 28 pages to 12. The marketing waffle has been retained. Factual information such as menus has been deleted. The only food described in detail is "Tasty Treats courtesy of the National Trust", such as Coffee & Cherry Cake. None of this was offered during my Edinburgh - York journey.
The promised menu cards appropriate to the time of day have not (yet?) appeared.
The inconsistent approach to order taking remains. With just over 30 to serve, the Edinburgh - Newcastle crew were able to describe the full offering to each passenger. South of Newcastle, this was not attempted, resulting in the first indication to some that hot food was available being the sight of it being served to others.
My personal bugbear is that the coffee service is not at an appropriate time for passengers wanting to eat a meal. I like to have a cup of coffee served some 5-10 minutes after I finish eating. I ate my pie & chips between Berwick and Alnmouth (1925-1945). Coffee was offered twice at Musselburgh (1835) and Ferryhill (2050). This did not meet my needs.
Alcohol was offered twice at Dunbar and Darlington, making completion of the second glass of wine a little rushed for an Edinburgh - York passenger.

sorry your visit was for a funeral John. Glad to hear though that both the food and oppinions on it are being enjoyed/saught. Agree drinks services are maybe less than ideal but stil it sounds better

They make it sound nice, don't they? Having said that the three cheese names made me smile (a bit). In reality, does the cheeseboard look anything like the image in the top left corner?
FWIW the timetables are now online, though they've gone down the route of times only, not the actual booklet.

I'm on the 13:30 Edinburgh to Kings Cross. Sat in Coach M Seat 47.
I have never traveled with East Coast before today, (Nor GNER, or NXEC).
Two members of staff came round swiftly on departure from Edinburgh with tea and coffee, rather efficient. Shortly followed by them handing out the afternoon tea menu.
I must say I was not impressed.
Red Salmon and Cucumber finger Sandwiches on soft grain bread.
Egg and roasted tomato finger sandwiches on malted bread.
I'm not a lover or Egg, nor a lover of fish so that was the menu out of the window for me.
However shortly afterward the All Day Meny was delivered to our seats, no explanation so I assume I can choose from either.
Tune, horseradish and chutney sandwiches or
smoked applewood cheese and chutney sandwiches
served with hand cooked crisps
or
Chicken and mushroom pie served with fries.
Or
Jacket potato with leeks in cheese sauce
garnished with mixed leaf salad and balsamic dressing.
Now that sounds a little more like it. I will update with how it goes. Should I expect more food later on in the journey considering we don't get to London till around 18:00

Food trolley has just been as far as me.
Four triangles of sandwich without having to ask. Cake and crisps, the drinks trolley have also served me with a coke.

You could have had some Afternoon Tea & then something from the All Day. You couldn't really have something twice from the All Day offer as really it's only available once per passenger.
As the menu reads you have the choice of A, B, C or D for your journey. After that it's light snacks. You could go to the Cafe Bar?

Are you sure? That seems unlikely on the 1200 Kings X - Inverness where the EC timetable booklet shows the All Day offer is served on departure from Kings X and continues to be served on departure from Perth 6 hours later.

What happened?
When I travelled from DEE-KGX at the end of September, I was offered food and drink:

I only took up the option of food once (after NCL), but could certainly have had it four times if I'd wanted.
Actually, I did technically have it four times, acquiring four bags of crisps.

If I had that in a 5-hour trip I'd be insulted.
The offer is designed only for a passenger to eat one main item from each menu available on a train. So if it was London to Edinburgh and the train only offered the All Day Menu you'd be offered once. That's not to say that is what happens. Again the Cafe Bar is always there.
The train I was on was listed in the timetable as having the mid morning offer followed by afternoon tea, at which station this changed I couldn't remember without seeing the timetable again.
Either way I was only allowed one or the other.

Perhaps I'm missing something obvious, but how do new crews know what you have and haven't had?
Surely it's too much hassle to keep track of seat numbers and destinations? And indeed, there's no guarantee that's accurate if you're sitting in the seat of someone who hasn't turned up.
