Class 158 through HUD?

Hello everyone. I have a quick question to which I know the answer is probably 'no'. Is there ever the occasional transpennine 158 that runs from piccadilly and past Huddersfield? Or do they no longer do this route?

Transpennine do not utilise Class 158's anymore, it's either Class 170 or 185...

TPE stopped using them in 2006, with the fleet going to other operators, notably Northern...

I just thought I might be lucky to catch one on camera. I did'nt know that TPE had gotten rid of all thier 158's, i thought they might have some stored away somewhere as backup units.

Actually, most of Transpennines' 158s went to FGW, EMT and South West Trains. The majority of Northerns' 158s are former Central Trains units, as well as some former Wessex Trains examples.

Did they??? I recognise some of them are ex TPE, but, thinking about it, I do remember seeing CT examples at Leeds and Wessex Examples at York...

As I say, they were snapped up by a combination of FGW, EMT and SWT. Eight of the 3-car 158s became SWTs' 159/1s. Most of the others lost their centre cars and went to EMT, except for 158798 which is now working for FGW as a three car unit.

Eleven TPE 158s became South West Trains 158/8 two car fleet after refurbishment (158880-890), including the last unaccounted for three car units.

All of First Great Westerns' hybrid 3-car sets utilise one complete ex-TPE two car unit plus one carriage each from the former Virgin operated 158s.

The remainder of the two car TPE units are split between FGW and EMT.

Some ex-Transpennine 158s did go to the old Central Trains for a short while.
They retained their TPE livery but had Central vinyls added.
The 3 car sets were a boon on the Norwich-Liverpool service, and I enjoyed several comfortable rides between Manchester-Grantham and Nottingham-Skegness in the declassified 1st class seats!

One of the main reasons that tpe got new stock is to realese 158's to other operators. Now with all due respect it is abit silly to suggest 158's would be put in store.

If you want to catch a 158 on camera going through Huddersfield and can be bothered to get up early, the 06:48 Marsden > Leeds is booked for one, as is the return 07:43 Leeds > Hudds and presumably the 08:31 back again. Pacers all the way for rest of the day though.

Other than the boundary between Lancs and Yorks, hence making it the first station in the MetroTrain area.

Same reason as why LM use the village of Dorridge as a terminus of the Snow Hill lines.

Thats far to early for me to be weilding a camera next to the railway

I remember going to York from Manchester many times on a 158 when I was young. For some reason I find them a lot more majestic and a lot more ballsy than a 170/185.

You may also see a 158 at Huddersfield (not passing through though) on the WY Grand Tour service - had one on there the other week. To be honest though, I find Northern a mixed bag and almost any unit can turn up almost anywhere!
(e.g. seen a 142 on a Leeds - Man Vic via Dewsbury stopper while seeing Sprinters on the Huddersfield - Leeds all shacks!)

Sorry to be super picky - it was Central Trains the went to, rather than EMT.

I remember seeing the occasional 158 working a Liverpool-Scarborough in early 2007 - after TPE had received the full set of 185s, they were also booked on the Hull services until the 170s arrived.

A rather interesting occurance was the use of a Northern 142/150/156 on an early evening TPE Blackpool service. This was happening in 185 days, at least up until mid-2007.

Anyone recall seeing a 158 substitute for a 175 on the NW route in the TPE days?
