I'm sure someone asked a few days ago about whether there will be ticket barriers at the new station, but I can't seem to find that post or thread it was in...

There is a whole load of info now appeared on the Thameslink Programme website, and the bottom line is that both the new and existing entrance will have gatelines, and there will be various transitional arrangements over November and December while all the alterations are gradually brought into use:

We knew there'd definitely be barriers in the new station building - I'm just adding the timescales now they've appeared...

How exactly is it "better" ? You still have to cross Iverson Road to get to the Overground and a busy West End Lane to get to the Underground

I suppose it's slightly better because there should be less pedestrians on the bridge's pavement over the Thameslink lines, and because they've demolished the NR owned buildings on the corner of Iverson Rd and the rail bridge, where people wait for the traffic lights. Also, not everyone aiming for the Thameslink station will transfer to the Iverson Rd entrance, people from the north will still have the existing entrance to use.

But there seems to be no changes planned to the pavement bottle neck between the LO station and Iverson Rd itself as far as I can see - that could be much easier to navigate without those outside tables at a couple of cafes...

With the money they're spending was expecting it to incorporate those cafes as part of a joint FCC/LO station with cover and more retail outlets - though knowing how Camden council operate by the time planning got through ( as per the 'Central Hampstead Development' or O2 centre) it wouldn't have been completed till 2044.

When i was working down there, earlier this year i was told from a Network Rail rep that the local council had given certain cafes/shops a warning regarding tables/chairs on the pavement.This i was told will be looked into more seriously when the station entrance on Iverson Rd is open

It has always seemed an odd place to try and start a 'cafe culture', thats for sure. Maybe it's a knock on effect of the smoking ban...

It happen's in every town, don't know why though i mean it's hardly Rome!
People even sit on the pavement's in Crewe, you get a cracking view of the boarded up shops!

But it is expected in 'bohemian' West Hampstead, so that it's cafe society can admire the vibrant crawl of traffic stuttering it's way up and down West End Lane as they breathe in those aromatic fumes.

Oh I don't know, it looked quite scenic last time I was there... on a filthy Arriva rail replacement bus... which took 20 minutes to get from the current Thameslink station entrance to the LU station entrance!

Nope, can't see the appeal myself either

Quicker to crawl there, last time i was there i seen a man jump into the path of 100mph MM Class 43, haven't been there since

I wonder if Cricklewood will see a marked increase in passenger usage after the barriers are in place?

We start early next year on extending Cricklewood Sidings to stable 12 car units

I was under the impression the plan was to barrier all the TL stations eventually. Certainly seems so north of St Albans, hence the work at Harpenden etc.

Am wondering if that will be in our lifetimes. They will have to do a fair altering of the layout at Cricklewood to prevent a bottleneck occuring. The current layout wouldn't give you the space for anything more than one in and out barrier.
...anyhow after about 7 or 8pm the stations become unstaffed and the barriers are opened to all and sundry anyhow.
