Huge East Coast diverson - help?

I'm going to Peterborough from Leeds on the 22nd of October too see the mighty whites play away down there.

Booked on the 9.05 out of Leeds (East Coast service) and returning on the 15.08 service.

The journey to P'Boro takes around 1hr 30mins but the return journey is nearly 3hrs 30mins! I checked this out and it turns out there is major works going on and there is a huge diversion. As explained here - http://www.eastcoast.co.uk/travel-information/timetable-alterations/?d=22&m=10&y=2011

As i've stated before, I don't know alot about the rail network, my main interest is trains themselves.

Can anyone help me in explaining just where the diverted train will be going? An extra two hours on the journey time is massive, we don't get into Leeds until almost 18.30. Madness

Edit to say - This train doesn't do any extra stops, it misses out Grantham but there is no stops at all on the diversion route, the first stop after P'Boro is Newark. There is no train changes between P'Boro and Leeds

The Leeds trains are diverted between Newark & Peterborough via Lincoln that afternoon. I think there is a 20 minute wait scheduled at Newark whilst the diesel loco is coupled to the electric set & is uncoupled again at Peterborough. (The reverse procedure applies northbound)

I did wonder about that to be honest. I'm not an expert at all but I was fairly confident that the diversion route wasn't electrified or at least parts of it weren't.

Should be a fun journey home then with a train packed full of rowdy Leeds fans

Faster journey:
1525 EMT Peterborough to Sheffield 1734
1747 XC Sheffield to Leeds 1831

Or you can get the same 1525 EMT train to Grantham 1557 and then the 1620 EC bus to Newark arr 1645, to pick up your diverted train dep Newark 1722 arr Leeds 1826

All those players that played well don’t play for P’Boro any more though. And I seem to remember that day the referee seemed to be personally selected by Darren Ferguson himself. No doubt this will be P’Boro’s biggest gate of the season just like it was a couple of years ago

Normal service in the morning then after about 13:00 it is roughly hourly HST each way KX-Newcastle/Edinburgh (diverted from Doncaster). some Leeds services (225 sets) run through with diesel drags Newark-Lincoln-Peterborough. Other Leeds services just run Newark-Leeds with buses to Grantham & trains Grantham-London.
