EMT: ... the trolley will remain stagnant...

The following announcement was heard on EMT's 17:55 from London one day last week: "Due to the high numbers of passenger the trolley will remain stagnant in the buffet in the buffet car area..."

Not exactly the way to encourage your customers to buy your highly expensive wares. Then again I suppose it is an accurate description of some of the stuff on the trolley.

EMT seem to have lost their way with the on board catering. I thought that the original idea was to do away with the kitchen/bar area of the buffet carriage on HSTs and replace it with seats.
It seems for construction reasons this cannot be done, so why not re-open the buffets and finish with the trolleys, on HSTs anyway.

I now go into Pumpkins just before departure and get my coffee there with my Bite card, I won't admit to buying those dreadful microwaved brekkie rolls.

And yet First Great Western have issued a tender for the conversion of up to 17 Mk3 Trailer Restaurant First Buffets into Trailer Standards High Density.

...but in 1997 at RRNE there was an incident of one steward putting 1/2 a bottle of fairy liquid into another's urn, in return that one pee'd in the first one's urn

I don't think that was ever the intention, if for no other reason that on the HSTs they need the kitchen area to prepare the first class catering as there isn't another kitchen space on HSTs. But I'm fairly sure that when this was first announced that EMT said they would be keeping the buffets (on both 222s and HSTs) in place so that if there was overcrowding they could deploy the trolley there.

If you want to hear someone mangle the English language, give them access to a PA system - why say something in a sentence that can be said in 10?

I've heard of this 'static trolley' several times on EMT, when the trains have been busy. Seems to defeat the object of closing the buffet really. I think that debate has been done to death, though.
