Any ideas which video camera is best for a total beginner?

Never used a video camera in my life, so I don't need all the bells and whistles. What I do need is a device that allows simple uploading onto YouTube (I am familiar with making videos on Windows Live Movie Maker).
Primary initial purpose is to make personal videos for my young lady in Antigua to watch on YouTube - and then deleted after she has downloaded them onto her computer

I started with a Kodak M550. Very easy for sharing, it's built for fast access to sites such as YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Don't bother with an expensive camera. I reckon you just need a webcam
