Risca station was sited some distance nearer Ebbw Junction and gained the additional name '& Pontymister'. Rogerstone station was also sited at a different location as well.

Was Bishop Auckland resited? I know it's not even a shadow of it's former self but not sure if it was moved?

I don't know about the current Northern station, but the last time I was there there was a sign up on the Weardale station stating that they were going to move that one

As this picture suggests, the Weardale station is frustratingly close to the Northern station (but a long walk) http://www.flickr.com/photos/thebustocrookes/5672951705/

(or a similar view with a 141 for those who need a Pacer fix http://www.flickr.com/photos/thebustocrookes/5942595740/)

Exmouth station was moved (just!) in 1981 - the current platform is one of the original ones, but the station was shifted up towards Exeter with the platform being 'shortened'.

Bristol Temple Meads is another that's moved - used to be a terminus, but now is the curved wonder we have today (though that the old station building is now a fairly grotty-looking car park seems almost sacrilege to me...)

If Tiverton Junction to Tiverton Parkway counts, I think that would open the floodgates as it were; one that instantly springs to mind is Shoreditch to Shoreditch High Street!

I think Stourbridge Junction had moved a short distance

Do you mean Stourbridge Town? Or has that been mentioned already?

The town has been mentioned previously in this thread but the junction has (apparently) moved too. The reason the town station was (slightly decapitated) moved was because of WMPTEs bus station being extended (which then ended up getting demolished in 2010 to be replaced - hence only a 153/139 can visit SBT :) )

I didn't know Stourbridge Junction had moved - last time I went through it seemed to be in it soriginal place, given the lack of anything that seemed new!

'twas many many years ago for SBJ...they still have a permit to travel machine at the town (when checked earlier today)!

Brighouse moved slightly further towards Huddersfield when it was re-opened by Metro.

Not really. Smethwick Galton Bridge (on both lines) opened as new in 1995 and then a year later Smethwick West (on the Stourbridge line) closed, with the two coexisting for a while; I'd say it was a different station in the manner of Brightside/Meadowhall (which also coexisted for a time).

Infinitely debatable. Smethwick Galton Bridge is (literally) a stones throw from Smethwick West. To anybody local to the area, they just moved the station even if it now has a different name and different connections.

Here in London, Canning Town is on its third site.

The original station was sited to the south of Barking Road, at its junction with Victoria Dock Road (pretty much underneath the present day Canning Down flyover) and closed in 1888.

The second site was on the north side of Barking Road, bounded to the west by Stephenson Street (still extant), and to the east by Liverpool Lane (now truncated, as Liverpool Road, by the construction of the flyover and associated roundabout and Manor Road).

It was relocated again in 1995, to the current site, as part of work to build a new multimodal interchange between the North London Line, Docklands Light Railway, London Buses, and ultimately the Jubilee Line Extension.

The current site is a little to the south of the first.

Cheers,

Barry

Could be both ways - it was planned for West to close when Galton Bridge opened but they messed up the closure procedure for West so taht is why it had to stay open.

No, still at the same location. The only platform now in use is the former Eastgate-bound one, whereas the ones towards Crook and Consett were removed. I suppose you could say that Bishop Auckland West has been resited.

I Think Eltham in South London nad there have been quite large alterations to Exmouth & Exeter Central which are shadows of their former selves. Shepperton, the orig platform was on the other side also Sheerness on Sea which has been altered somewhat.

Ivybridge station was closed in 1965, but then re-opened in 1994, a little to the East of its original location.

Exeter Central hasn't been moved though; it's just been cut down so instead of four tracks going through and an island platform, it just has the two and the two platforms (plus the Exmouth bay platform).

Not quite correct. There were 2 stations, Highland (West) and Great North of Scotland (East). East was closed in 1968 and is now in non-railway use. West was rebuilt and is the one now being used.

Godley Junction became Godley East when the new station called Godley opened. They both stayed open for a while until Godley East closed in 1995.

Horwich Parkway returned a station to the town abbeit a 'Parkway' after the closure of the previous station located in the town closed in 1965

Another one is Rutherglen, the old one (I think the platforms still exist) is on the WCML, the new one is just off it on (western end of) the Argyle line.

Interestingly, the new station was given a new NLC.

A good one is Dorchester South; it took over a century to fix the fact that the station wasn't quite on the line it was served by.

Basically, the LSWR mainline was meant to continue towards Honiton, but when this fell through instead a chord was connected to the GWR's Weymouth line. The chord had to be put in such a way that Dorchester LSWR station ended up on a tiny spur a couple hundred yards long. After about 25 years (in the 1870s) platform 2 was moved to be on the line, but platform 1 was still on the spur, meaning northbound trains had to roll back into the platform from the line. This wasn't fixed till the 1970s, when the spur was torn up and platform 1 moved to its rightful place on the line.

Rather similarly, Weymouth station has sort of moved over a bit stealthily. The original part, built by IK of the Brunel, was over to the west of where it is now, the current station is on the excursion platforms that were added in the 1950s, I think. The original station is now B&Q & Halfords.

Amongst the "Airports that have Station", I'd always considered Gatwick to be a "Station that has an Airport" :)

Certainly the site of the 1940's Gatwick station is near enough to where the current station is now as viewed from http://wtp2.appspot.com/wheresthepath.htm

Eltham Well Hall was resited from the west side to the east side of Well Hall Road in 1985 in connection with construction of the Rochester Way relief road. It was renamed simply 'Eltham' and on its opening Eltham Park - less than 1km to its east - was closed.

What a disgrace the "medical centre" is compared to the original.

To what use is the Victorian Gothic Building being put to ?

It's used for offices. As it's off the main line it wouldn't be easy to use it as a station again.
