Good luck on your journey, you’ll absolutely love it once you get going.Wow it’s been quite an enlightening journey. A journey which started around 3 years ago after running into a former work colleague whose based at Charing Cross station as a train driver working for Southeastern. Since that chat, I became laser focused in becoming a train driver. Learnt all I can, joined free webinar, bought material and had one to one sessions with a recruitment expert who works for how2become.
A year and a half later I got the opportunity to apply for the same company and depot as my former work colleague. Pass all the assessments and interviews on first attempt. Placed in 2 different pools, passed medical, given, then asked which depot would I prefer to work out of, CX had 1 spot in January whilst Vic had no spaces but was told it could change. Sat on the decision for a day and decided to go with CX. I start a day before my birthday so that will be a lovely birthday present to myself.
I am truly grateful for all the help you guys have given me. And for all the aspiring train drivers, don’t lose hope when things go wrong. Keep at it. Learn from your mistakes. I have applied to nearly all the other local TOC’s but only got to the online assessment stage which I always tend to trip up on. A big thank you all. Stay blessed. Stay focussed.
Thanks mate. Looking forward to it. And thank you for being such a present supporting figure in the thread. Your journey and advice hasn’t gone unnoticed mate. Are you doing your driving now?Good luck on your journey, you’ll absolutely love it once you get going.

What’s been your favourite stock to drive?First time is daunting, I’ve had lots of sim runs but nothing compares to the real thing.
Actually finding it really easy to drive, it’s the routes, stop car marks etc that now need to be learnt/remembered.
I’ve been mainly driving the Electrostar units for the last 6 weeks, driven the Networker twice and I’m not a fan, seats very uncomfortable. What’s been your favourite stock to drive?
I’m sure that will come naturally with experience. Glad to know you’re enjoying the process. Can’t wait to get to that stage where I’m in the driving seat.First time is daunting, I’ve had lots of sim runs but nothing compares to the real thing.

I’m sure your group will be just as good, we all help each other out so if you have any questions during rules, 9 times out of 10 someone in the group will know the answer and can help! Enjoy your induction day, trust me you feel so out place to begin with and it honestly feels so surrealThanks mate. I’m really looking forward to starting. I'm probably a couple of steps behind you so can't offer specifics. But I do know that Gillingham have a fair few trainees either going through the training centre or are out at depot with their driver instructor.Hi guys, really enjoying seeing everyone’s progress as time goes on. I’ve passed everything just waiting for a start date. Just wondered if anyone here is waiting for a Gillingham start date and given a potential start date timeframe ?
I'm currently a trainee for Gillingham and just started my first week. Definitely going to be an intense couple of months ahead of me but looking forward to it!I'm probably a couple of steps behind you so can't offer specifics.
